Included in the early settlers of the West Prairie community were Mr. and Mrs. Ole Fodness.

Both were born in Norway, the former August 18, 1853 and the latter February 2, 1854.

They spent their earlier years in their native land. Mr. Fodness immigrated to the United States in 1873 and a year later, in 1874, joined his brothers and other early day settlers of the West Prairie community here. His brothers, Abraham and Gulbrand, with other pioneers came here in 1873 and held a claim for him in Grant Township, eight miles southeast of Lennox, on which he filed.

Mrs. Fodness, nee Seneve Koorstad, spent her early years in Norway and later, with other family members joined the immigrant's enroute to America and subsequently settled here. She was born at Holingdahl, Norway.

Mr. and Mrs. Fodness were joined in wedlock May 26, 1879, here, and continued to make their home in this vicinity.

Seven children were born to this union, all of whom are living. These are: Mrs. Louis (Mary) Lind, Mrs. Henry (Anna) Hanson, Mrs. Thomas (Carrie) Clark, Cornelius, Theodore, Martin, and Oscar O. Fodness.

Mr. Fodness passed Family in the 1865 census on the Fodnes farm in Nord-Aurdal, Oppland:

In the 1940 census, he and his wife and daughter farmed in Lynn Twp, Lincoln County, South Dakota.

He and his family lived in Worthing, South Dakota, where he owned a furniture store. He was killed in a car-pedestrian accident on Interstate Highway 29 while crossing the freeway to investigate a car in the median strip that had been involved in a minor accident a short time before.

She died when the truck in which she was hauling water went out of control near Harrisburg, South Dakota. The water tanks on the truck rolled across the cab.

Died when her car overturned near Hardwick in southwestern Minnesota at about 1:15 a.m. on July 18th. She was alone in the car. She had joined the National Guard in March of 1976.
