She is not listed with her father and step-mother in the 1900 census although Annie and Gustav are. Neither she nor her sister Annie were living with her father and step-mother in the 1905 state census.

Her daughter is shown as the adopted daughter of Knute and Annie Odegaard in the 1910 census.

    Notes:

In the 1900 census, he lives with Thomas Veflen and Magret. He is clearly shown as the senior Thomas’s step-son. He is also shown in that census as having a mother born in Minnesota, not Norway. Other Events and Attributes:

    • Minnesota Birth Certificate: 1908-18954
    • Confirmation: 9 Jul 1922, Crosby, Divide County, North Dakota

    Notes:

Her name on her birth certificate is Marie Clara Atthea Coltman, mother’s maiden name Weflen, so it’s not clear which of the two sisters, Annie or Clara, was her mother. We’re assuming here that Marie Clara’s mother was Clara and that she was later adopted by the Odegards. The Odegard Family Tree agrees with this assumption.

In the 1910 census, she is shown with Knute and Annie as an adopted daughter.
