    Notes:

    Trudy (Gertrude) Lindau
    January 12, 1925 – May 16, 2022

Trudy passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 16, 2022 at the age of 97 while staying at Bethel Lutheran Home in Selma, CA.

Trudy was born on January 12, 1925 in McIntosh, Minnesota to George and Minda (Lovaas) Hoyne. She was the middle of three daughters.  She attended McIntosh schools graduating as salutatorian in 1942.  Trudy attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN for two years before transferring to the Fairview Hospital Nursing program in Minneapolis to proudly obtain her RN certificate.

In 1945 while pursuing her nursing program she reconnected with a childhood family friend, John Lindau, who was home on leave from the Navy.  John had just returned from the South Pacific where he had fought in World War II battles in the Solomon Islands and Coral Sea.  They became engaged on December 9, 1945, and married on August 31, 1946 in McIntosh.

Their two daughters, Anne and Hope, were born in Minneapolis.  The family relocated to Whittier, CA in 1955 when John was transferred to Los Angeles by his employer, the Pillsbury Company.  The family was transferred to Fresno, CA in 1961.

Upon arrival in Fresno the family joined the congregation of Trinity Lutheran Church.  Trudy relished church life and devoted many hours to women’s groups, community service activities and Sunday School teaching.  She taught Sunday school for 30 years at Trinity.  She was widowed in 1973, but continued her service to the church and her family and also working as a nurse.

After her daughter Hope had triplets, Trudy moved to their country property and was drafted into providing childcare and chauffeuring service. She loved living in the country and connecting with Fairmont school activities. She went to all the kids’ games and school programs. She once became lost with her group of charges on a school field trip to Alcatraz but fortunately there was a happy ending. She moved into town in Sanger in 1998 and became close friends with her wonderful neighbors. She and her devoted dog Ralph walked everywhere. There were many Sundays where she attended both Sanger First United Methodist Church and also Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Sanger.  She was very happy to serve as Bethlehem’s church pianist for 22 years.

Trudy loved people. She loved getting to know them and chatting with them. She said when she was a little girl and left for school her mother usually said “Gertrude, don’t talk too much.”  She ignored that advice. She had a truly amazing memory. She was a prolific letter and postcard writer and one highpoint of her day was going to the mailbox. She was very proud of living independently in her own home until early April. She was also proud of her Norwegian heritage. She traveled to Norway several times and met many relatives. She loved to travel and was the type of person when asked “Would you like to go do something?” the answer was always “Yes!” She was a very good baker and we will miss her homemade bread and many delicious cookies. She loved to read, play Scrabble, garden and grew many beautiful roses. She was a talented seamstress and also gifted many people with her lovely embroidered tea towels. She rarely missed an episode of Wheel of Fortune. She was excited to have been on Family Feud too! She had so much energy. She said one of her favorite compliments was from her handsome husband John who said he loved the way her eyes danced when she talked.

Trudy was predeceased by her husband, John, her parents, and sister Dorothy Bentley.  Trudy leaves behind her daughters Anne Lindau Johnson (Willard) of Clovis, CA, and Hope Lindau (Michael Mosby) of Sanger, CA, and sister Margaret Dahl of Bloomington, MN.  She will be missed by her seven grandchildren, Melissa Johnson Hallas (Ryan), Bridget Johnson Dixon (Sean), Jared Johnson, Jessica Mosby, John Mosby (Brandy Gamoning), Alexandra Mosby (Robert Johnson), and Robert Mosby.  Trudy was blessed to have four great-grandsons: Seth Hallas, Erik Hallas, Clark Mosby, and Caleb Dixon, plus two step great-granddaughters Kelly and Hailey Dixon. In addition, she was loved by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends.

Trudy will be interred at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN alongside her beloved John.
