Martin Henjum’s write-up for nllha.org:
OLE HALVORSON HANDE & DOROTHEA O. SONDROL, Charter Members of West Norway Lake Lutheran Church
Ole Halvorson Hande was the son of Halvor Pederson Torstad-Hande (1803-1875) and Barbro Nilsdatter Hoyne (1805- 1882). He was born May 4, 1844 on the Øvre Hande farm Slidre Parish, Vestre Slidre, Oppland, Norway. Ole had four older brothers and two sisters all of whom along with their parents would eventually migrate to America.
Despite being the youngest brother, Ole was the first to leave for America arriving in 1865. Eventually he made it to Rice County, Minnesota where he married Dorothea O. Sondrol on January 1, 1872. Dorothea was born on September 30, 1848 in Vang, Valdres, Norway. Her parents were Tosten and Marit Sondrol.
Ole’s brother Halvor Halvorson Hande along with his family and parents migrated to America in 1869 and settled near Norway Lake in what is today section 13 of Arctander Township. That may have been the reason for brother Ole and his wife to move to the Sunburg area which it appears they did some time in the 1870s. They settled on a farm in Kerkhoven Township in Swift County and became members of the newly constructed West Norway Lake Lutheran Church just south of Sunburg.
Ole and Dorothea had ten children
the oldest of whom was Bestsy M. Hande (1872-1952) who married John Hystad (1869-1944).
Daughter Marit O. Hande (1873-1926) married Louis Pilstrom (1871-1954) at the West Norway Lake Church,
moved to Minneapolis where they are buried in Lakewood Cemetery.
Halvor Oleson Hande (1875-1902) never married and died at the age of twenty-five.
Anna O. Hande (1877-1919) married Theodore Frovold (1875-1930) and remained in the Sunburg area their
entire lives.
Ingeborg O. Hande and Tosten O. Hande were twins born on June 6, 1879. They lived only a few months.
Ingeborg died on April 23, 1880 and Tosten on September 15, 1880.
Belle Hande was born June 25, 1881, married William Wenzel and settled in the Fargo, N. D. area.
Tosten O. Hande (1883-1975) married Louise Flolo (1887-1980)and lived in the local area all their lives.
Oloff O. Hande (1885-1916) never married and died young at age 30.
Ole and Dorothea’s last child was daughter Dena born May 25, 1877. Dena only reached her ninth year and died
on April 18, 1896.
Betsy and John Hystad, Halvor, Anna and Theodore Frovold, the twins Ingeborg and Tosten, Tosten and Louise Hande, Oloff and Dena are buried at the West Norway Lutheran Cemetery. Ole Halvorson Hande died on November 21, 1925. His wife Dorothea died on January 2, 1933. They are both buried at the West Norway Lake Lutheran Cemetery near Sunburg where Ole was a charter member.

Martin Henjum’s write-up for nllha.org:
HALVOR & GURI HANDE, Charter Members of East Norway Lake Lutheran Church
On June 22, 1869, the ship Valkyrien arrived at the port of Quebec, Canada. Debarking were Halvor Hande, his wife Guri, daughter Barbro and son Knudt. Also traveling with them was Halvor’s elderly parents Halvor Pederson Torstad (1803- 1875) and Barbro Nilsdatter Hoyne (1805-1882), his sisters Guri and Ingeborg and his brother Niels. They emigrated that same year from the Øvre Hande farm in the Slidre Parish, Vestre Slidre, Oppland, Norway where Halvor was born on February 23, 1838. It is also where he was married on July 29, 1866 to Guri Knutesdatter Hamre . Guri was born in Vestre Slidre on August 9, 1843, the daughter of Knut Reierson Hamre (1797-1880) and Ingrid Pettersdatter Jarstad (1804-1884).
They arrived in the Norway Lake Settlement in the summer of 1869 and homesteaded in Section 13 of what is today Arctander Township. It is not surprising that Halvor’s parents left Norway with them as eventually all of Halvor’s siblings immigrated to America. Halvor’s older brothers, Tosten and Peder immigrated to America arriving in Quebec on June 2, 1866. Both brothers settled in Minnesota, Tosten in Pine City and Peder in Holmes City where they are buried. Younger brother, Niels, joined Peder at Holmes City where he is buried. Two of Halvor’s siblings, Guri (Mrs. Tosten Evenson) and Ole who married Dorothea Sondrol settled near Sunburg, Minnesota. On November 7, 1875, Halvor’s father, Halvor Pederson Torstad Hande died. His mother, Barbro Nilsdatter Hoyne, was living with her son Ole when she died on December 23, 1882. Halvor and Barbro are buried at the East Norway Lake Lutheran Cemetery.
Halvor and Guri continued to live on the home place in Section 13. They raised a large family, many of whom remained in the community.
Barbro married Jens Skaalrud and had twelve children. They are buried at First Lutheran of Norway Lake.
Knute married Ida Railson, the daughter of Andrew and Berthe Railson. They settled near Belgrade, Minnesota
and raised seven children and are buried in Stearns County.
Son Halvor moved to Canada in his early thirties where he married Elisabeth Popp and raised four children at
Marchwell, Saskatchewan where they are buried.
Ingrid married Ole Skaalrud and raised nine children. They are buried at First Lutheran.
Guri married Swen Swenson, the son of early pioneers Gunder and Gemina Swenson and had eight children and
lived on Lake Mary in Arctander Township. The Swensons are buried at East Norway Lake Cemetery.
Ingeborg married Simon Quamme and raised two children near Sunburg and is buried at Monson Lake Lutheran.
Like a number of fellow Norway Lakers, Olaf moved out to North Dakota where he married Elizabeth Oakland.
They had four children and lived the rest of their lives in Rhame, North Dakota.
Daughter Maria married Martin Elvestrom and they had four children, one of whom died in infancy.
Maria is buried in Bricelyn, Minnesota.
Daughter Anne Marie was born in 1884 and appears to have remained single. She was living on the farm in 1920
but details of her life after that remain sketchy.
Son Henry married Ida Gronseth and they had six children and are buried at East Norway Lake Cemetery. Their
son, Russell, remained on the home farm his entire life.
The Hande homestead is now owned by his son, Norman, a great grandson of Halvor and Guri Hande. Halvor and Guri had one more child, Carolyn, in 1888 who died in infancy. Halvor died August 21, 1910. His wife, Guri, died August 29, 1912. Both are buried at the East Norway Lake Lutheran Cemetery where Halvor was a charter member.
Halvor married Guri Knutsdatter HAMRE on 29 Jul 1866 in Vestre Slidre i Valdres, Oppland, Norway. Guri (daughter of Knud Reiarsson HAMRE and Ingri Pedersdatter LIE) was born on 9 Aug 1843 in Vestre Slidre i Valdres, Oppland, Norway; died on 29 Aug 1912 in Kandiyohi County, Minnesota. 38. | Victoria Mildred ELLINGBOE (28.Joseph4, 19.Sigrid3, 4.Tosten2, 1.Halvor1) was born on 6 May 1945 in Saskatchewan, Canada; died on 21 Nov 2009 in Saskatchewan, Canada. Notes:
Victoria Mildred Kaminski (nee Ellingboe), "Vickie" as she was know to family and friends, was born on May 6, 1945 in Yorkton, Sask, the daughter of Sherman and Mary (nee Rooke) Ellingboe. She grew up on the family farm, nine miles east of Saltcoats in the Chatsworth District. Vickie attended school at Chatsworth A & B Schools and them completed her high school at Saltcoats. An important part of her earlier years was spent participating in the Garden 4-H Club and the church choir at the Castleton Country Church. After high school, Vickie attended Marvel College in Regina, where she completed her hairdressing certificate. Victoria first met Julian Kaminski on a blind date in 1965. They were married on September 24, 1966 and soon moved to Churchbridge, the community that they have called home ever since and where Vickie had a hairdressing shop for over 40 years. Most recently Vickie enjoyed working at the Churchbridge Day Care, where she was considered “Grandma” to all the children. Vickie lived a very caring and giving life - helping others came easily to her - almost as if by instinct. One of her favourite things was co-ordinating family gatherings. The more family members that could be packed in and around the house, the better and the happier she would be. Travelling was also one of Vickie’s pass times, and she and Julian enjoyed visiting many different places throughout the U.S. and Canada. When Vickie was at home, she enjoyed cooking for her family, working in her flower and vegetable gardens; visiting with friends over a nice lunch always brought her much joy. Curling, knitting, putting together puzzles and a good game of cards were a few of her favourite things. Vickie’s faith, and the work she did with the United Church were very important parts of her life. She played the piano and organ in a number of churches for many years. No matter what other work, hobbies or pass times held her interest, Vickie’s grandchildren were the most important thing in her life and her greatest love was spending time with them. She loved to cheer for their teams as they played ringette, hockey and baseball or watch as they participated in cheer, dance and choir. Surrounded by her grandchildren, was when Grandma was at her happiest. Vickie will be sadly missed by all those whose lives she touched, loved dearly, and remembered always by the family she leaves behind. Victoria was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Sherman Ellingboe; her mother-in-law, Pauline Hrushka and her sister-in-law, Betty Ellingboe. She leaves to mourn her passing and celebrate her life, her husband, Julian; two sons, Sheldon (Lynette) Kaminski of Langenburg, SK and Kevin of Southhaven, Mississippi; one daughter, Lana Kaminski (Mike Gottfried) of Ile-Des-Chenes, MB; her beloved grandchildren, Noah, Kerringan, Lexy, McKenna, Katarina, Julian and Jordan; two sisters, Marj (Howard) Wedrick of Gull Lake, SK and Mae (Dave) Pawliw of Springside, SK; one brother, Albert Ellingboe of Saltcoats, SK; her father-in-law, Walter Hrushka of Pelly, SK as well as her nieces, nephews, other relatives and many good friends. Prayers will be held on Friday, November 27, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.from St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Churchbridge, SK. (under the auspices of the Four Town Pastoral Charge of the United Church of Canada). The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. A Private Family interment will follow in the Churchbridge Town Cemetery.
