He was a husmand med jord on the Bakken 1 farm in the 1865 census in Vang. Living with him and Margrethe were their son John, their daughter Rangdi, and a foster datter, 10 year-old Magrethe Olsdatter.

The only Endre born in Vang in 1800 or 1801 was Endre, born as illegitimate on 22 Jun to Endre Johanssen and Guri Andfinsdatter of Oldre.

In his VS, Jim calls him Endre Jonson Heensåsen, 1799-1871, I8746. The bygdebok, p. 619, has him as a husmann on Bakkin, apparently a subfarm of Bagetun, from 1829.

He is often called Ellingbø, why I do not know. Frøholm writes that the father was Jon Andersson and the mother was Randi Gudbrandsdt who was at Dalsøydegarden.

She was born before her parents married. Her parents were Ole Vilhelmson Lund and Anne Endresdatter Baggethun. Anders Tollefson Baggethun was the responsible person of the parish for the illegitimate Anne.

The Vang migration records show that she left Vang for Voss in January of 1881 to get married.

Yvonne and her sources believe that Anna died after she and her children arrived in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada, on May 12, 1890. Peter arrived in Quebec on Aug 10, 1889. Peter (and maybe Anna and the kids) went on to Aberdeen, South Dakota.

Called Anna Olson in her son Anton’s death certificate, the informant for which was her husband, and Anton’s father, Peter Hultgren of Clarissa.

Anne married Per August (Peter) Pettersen HULTGREN on 12 Apr 1881 in Voss, Hordaland, Norway. Per was born on 2 Jun 1853 in Sweden; died on 26 May 1944 in Todd County, Minnesota. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

He is the “Andrew Ellestad” who Rose refers to in her interview with Evey in the early 1970s. Andrew went to South Dakota with Erick Thompson and Tom Thompson in the mid 1880s. Later Andrew went to Clarissa and was probably the reason that Erick Thompson and family moved to Clarissa.

Rose maintained that her uncle Tom Thompson and Tom’s wife Rangdi Ellestad (Andrew Ellestad’s sister) were 2nd cousins. _That_ implies that either Anne Endrisdatter Baggethun or Ole Vilhelmsen Ellestad were first cousins of Andrew Thompson or Rangdi Kvale. None of that is true.

He is the 69 year-old Endrew Ellestad, husband of Sigrid, father of Evelyn and Clara, living in Clarissa, Todd County, Minnesota, in the 1930 census. He was born in Norway and came to the U.S. in 1882. Endrew was a dairy farmer.

He is the 58 year-old E. O. Ellestad, a carpenter in the village of Clarissa in the 1920 census. He came to the U.S. in 1885.

In the 1910 census, he is a widower in Todd County. His three children are liing with him.

In the 1900 census, he is probably Andrew Ellested living in Ward Twp, Todd County, born Mar 1861 in Norway. He is the husband of Ingebor and the father of Stella, John, and Cora. He came to the U.S. in 1883.

In the 1895 state census, he is living in Eureka Twp, Dakota County. The household consists of Andrew, 33, Ingebor M., 25, Estella, 4, John O., 2, and Cora, 6 months.

The informant for his death certificate was William Duda of Clarissa. (The Dudas lived one farm away from Endre and Ole in the 1910 census. William was 14 years old.) Endre had been in the U.S. for 38 years.

Endre died of stomach cancer.

Endre Olsen was confirmed in Vestre Slidre on 18 Jun 1876. The entry in church book says he was born on 14 Mar 1861, baptized on 28 Jul and there are some other notations that I don’t understand. His farm name is Bagetun Vang Ellestad and his parents were Ole Vilhelmson and Anne Endresdatter.

Sponsors for his baptism were Randi Wilhelmsdatter Lund, Gunhild Andersdatter Ellingboe, Sigrid Jørgensdatter Ellingboe, Endre Johnson Bagethun, and John Endressen Bagethun.

The 42 year-old widower Endre Olsen Ellestad of Clarissa, Minnesota, entered the U.S. at New York aboard the S.S. Celtic on 25 April 1903 following a ten-day voyage from Liverpool. He was still a citizen of Norway. Traveling with him was his brother Ole and their nephew, 22 year-old Ole Knudsen Ellestad of Vestre Slidre.

The 39 year-old single farmer Ole Olsen Ellestad, a U.S. citizen of Clarissa, Minnesota, entered the U.S. at New York aboard the S.S. Celtic on April 25, 1903, following a 10-day voyage from Liverpool. Traveling with him was his brother Endre and their nephew, 22 year-old Ole Knudsen Ellestad of Vestre Slidre.

Married to Guro and living in Todd County in the 1910 census. He is 44 in that census.

In the Valdris book, the 1920 history and “manual” of the Valdris samband, Ole Ellestad of Browerville is listed as a then-current member and had been a member since 1916.

In the 1920 census, he, 55, and Guro, 46, live in a rented apartment at 419 Bancroft Avenue in Fergus Falls. Ole is a carpenter for a contractor.

Guro was the informant for his death certificate. His residence when he died was Clarissa. He died from heart disease. His parents were Anders Ellestad and Anna Baggethun.

According to the Vestre Slidre church book, he was the son of Ole Vilhelmson and Anne Eivindsdatter (her last name is very hard to read). That Ole seems to have been born on the 20th of January and baptized on the 5th of May.

Her birth record in the Vang church book shows her parents as Ole Wilhelmson Veblen and Anne Endrisdatter. Her baptism sponsors were Marthe Evensdatter Weblen, Anne Andersdatter Törstad, Ingrid Somebody’s datter Qvale, Knud Somebody’s son Veblen, and Thron Törstad.

Came to this country in 1884. Came to this country in 1887 according to the 1900 census.

Her 1888 marriage to Thomas A Thompson was witnessed by E.O. Ellestad (the bride’s brother) and Miss Karoline Martinson of the village of Frederick in Brown County.

In the 1900 census, she had had 8 children, 5 still living. In the 1910 census, she is shown as having had 10 children, 7 still living.

Place of birth, date of birth, and mother’s maiden name were not included in her death certificate.

Burial record or gravestone shows 1868 as the year of birth.

The informant for her death certificate was Ingmur Thompson of Farmington. Randi’s residence was Webster. No parents’ names on her death certificate.

Evey believed that Randi and Thomas were first cousins. Rose claimed that the pair were 2nd cousins and that Rangdi was “Andrew Ellestad’s sister.” This genealogy shows they were 5th cousins so there is a disagreement here.

Anton died from an intestinal obstruction resulting in toxemia. In a note attached to the death certificate, the physician writes that he believes that the obstruction was due to adhesions. Anton had had ten feet of bowel removed 18 years previously and had had several obstruction episodes since then.

The “Solor’s Lutheran Cemetery” was established in 1881 in Greenvale Twp, Dakota County. It was a 1 acre plot of land in Section 9, the southwest quarter of the northwest quarter. The cemetery was later abandoned and moved to Webster Twp, Rice County, about 6 miles west, to the location of the Solor Lutheran Church of Webster. It is not clear whether or not anyone is still buried at the Greenvale Twp location.

It is probably this Minnie who Rose was referring to when she said “Minnie worked for Grandma {Julia} for nine years.”

The family consisted of Elmer, 32, his wife Emma, 24, and their children Evelyn, 5, and Lloyd, 11 months. Elmer and Emma were married when they were 27 and 18, respectively. Adeline Eleanor Tallman was born on September 11, 1920, in Webster, Minnesota, to George and Minnie (Thompson) Snesrud. She was raised in Webster, baptized and confirmed at Solar Lutheran  Church, and graduated from Faribault High School in 1937. She married John W. “Jack” Tallman Jr. on June 21, 1938, at Solar Lutheran Church. After marriage they lived in Webster and Dodge Center where Jack operated turkey farms and Adeline was a homemaker and raised four children. They moved to Faribault in 1952 when Jack began his management career as General Manager of Faribault Turkeys, Inc.  Adeline supported him in his career which took him to Rochester, Alabama and Utah. Prior to retirement Jack was the President of Norbest Turkeys. Inc., in Salt Lake City.  Adeline enjoyed the opportunity to travel with Jack internationally with his job and visit children living overseas. Following retirement, they split time between Depoe Bay, Oregon and Green Valley, Arizona. Jack passed away in 1999, and Adeline moved to Northfield in May 2006.
 
In addition to raising her four children, Adeline was active in the Lutheran churches in Faribault, Salt Lake, Arizona and Oregon, volunteering, attending classes and singing in the choir. Adeline devoted her life to caring for her husband and children and enjoyed spending her time reading, going for walks, traveling, as well as baking pies and cookies for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
 
Survivors include her children and their spouses: Beverly Lubbers of Northfield, Wesley and Joyce Tallman of Panama, Eileen and Jon Summers of Cambodia, Scott and Petra Tallman of Arkansas; 7 grandchildren: Laurel (Tim) Ley, Lisa (Tito) Warren, Elizabeth Summers (Christian Buhr), Sarah Summers (Eric Fudeman), Christopher (Kara Lee) Tallman, Joline (Rodrick) Thorton, Jessica Tallman; 10 great-grandchildren: Heather, Olivia, Austin, Colton, Blake, Andrew, Myles, Kendra, Madden, Dylan; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and her brother Russell.
 
Adeline passed away surrounded by her family on Friday morning, February 5, 2010, at Millstream Commons in Northfield, at the age of 89.
 
Services will be 1:30PM Tuesday, February 9, 2010, at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home in Northfield with Rev. Janet White officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00PM.
 
Memorials are preferred to Northfield Hospice or Rice County Humane Society.

The “Solor’s Lutheran Cemetery” was established in 1881 in Greenvale Twp, Dakota County. It was a 1 acre plot of land in Section 9, the southwest quarter of the northwest quarter. The cemetery was later abandoned and moved to Webster Twp, Rice County, about 6 miles west, to the location of the Solor Lutheran Church of Webster. It is not clear whether or not anyone is still buried at the Greenvale Twp location.

Thompson, Duane E. age 86, of Bloomington, Minnesota, formerly of Clarissa, died on Thursday, June 20, 2019, at his home. Interment is at the church cemetery. Full military honors accorded by the Minnesota Honor Guard and the Parkers Prairie American Legion Post #219.

Duane Elmer was born on July 25, 1932, to Elmer and Emma (Volenec) Thompson on the family farm near Browerville. He was baptized on December 1, 1932 and confirmed on October 16, 1949, at Bethel Church near Clarissa. Duane attended District #123 Country School through the eighth grade. Following his education, he started working for Swift & Co. in South St. Paul. Duane was united in marriage to Eleanor Hedlund on January 31, 1953, at Esther Lutheran Church in Eastern Township. Shortly after their wedding, Duane was stationed in Japan while he served in the United States Army from March 13, 1953 until his honorable discharge in February of 1955. He returned home and went back to work at Swift & Co, until 1967. Duane then began working for the Bloomington School System as a custodian and bus driver before eventually becoming the Chief Engineer. Duane retired in 1994. He was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Bloomington and former member of Esther Lutheran Church. Duane also was part of the camping group called the Rochester Roamers. He enjoyed working, traveling and camping. Duane especially loved taking trips with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; an infant son; sister, Evelyn Sada; and two brothers, Loyd Thompson and Donald Thompson.

Duane is survived by his wife of 66 years, Eleanor; two sons, Kevin (Mary) Thompson of River Bank, California and Keith (Lois) Thompson of Bloomington; daughter, Karla (Donny) Kalpin of Leaf Valley; two brothers, Gary (Kathy) Thompson of Eagle Bend and LeRoy Thompson of Rogers; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

DONALD CHRISTOPHER HULTGREN, age 72, of Luverne, formerly of Pipestone, died Saturday, August 4, 2007, at his home in Luverne. He was born September 14, 1935, in Easton, MN, to Martin and Alice (Klenk) Hultgren.

He grew up on a farm near Easton and attended school in Wells, MN. During his life Don owned and operated many business establishments. He owned a garbage business for more than twenty years in Albert Lea. He later owned Bar and Grills in Phoenix, AZ, Franklin, MN, and his latest the Trosky Bar and Grill in Trosky, MN. He enjoyed fishing, CJ Jeep Racing, and was a big fan of the Minnesota Twins, Vikings and Timberwolves.
Donald is survived by six children, Mark (Julie) Hultgren, Burnsville; Lenny (Lou Ann) Hultgren, Albert Lee; Lonny (Ann) Hultgren, Burnsville; Sherri (Ed) Twohey, Stewartville; Brandie Hultgren, Mason City, IA; Shane Hultgren and special friend Miranda Stickling, Luverne; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents. A Memorial Service will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 11, 2007 at the Wells Community Center in Wells, MN. Burial of Cremains will be in the Lura Cemetery in Easton, MN.

Gina Louise Lien, 54 of Cooperstown, ND, died Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Gina was born March 15, 1958 in Cooperstown, ND to Ovidia (Soma) and Lloyd Thompson. She grew up and graduated from high school in Cooperstown. She married Larry Lien on October 25, 1975 in Cooperstown. Gina worked at the Cooperstown Nursing Home, Sheyenne Tooling and V-W Motors.

Gina loved spending time with her family, and taking care of her dogs. She enjoyed watching and participating in demolition derbies and watching Larry and Garret drag race. Gina also liked to take trips to Las Vegas.

Gina is survived by her husband, Larry of Cooperstown; 3 children, Garett Lien of Washburn, ND, Shane (Theresa) Lien of Sioux Falls, SD, and Lori Lien (Mark Gjavenis) of Apple Valley, MN; grandchildren, Preston Dahl, Stephen Lien and Austin Lien; parents, Ovidia and Clifford Anderson of Cooperstown; siblings, Gail (Farrel) Carlson of Bismarck, ND, Suzanne (Kevin) Nelson of Fargo, Lisa Thompson of Fargo, Laura (Jody) Brorby of Bismarck, and Rusty (Marlene) Thompson of Cooperstown.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lloyd Thompson; 3 infant sons; and her beloved dogs, Squeaky and Omar.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 24, 2012 at 10:30 am at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cooperstown, ND.
