She is incorrectly shown as Ragndi Eriksdatter Kvåle, I8781, in Jim’s VS. Jim’s Ellingboe tree does not show the parents of Erik Anderson Ellestad, the man he shows in that tree as Rose’s father.

However, the marriage record shows her as Randi Eriksdatter, age 22 of Qvale, daughter of Erik Iversen.

Rose said that Rangdi “didn’t take” to Rose because she, Rose, “didn’t look like them.” That may be why Ann was sent to replace Rose in the later 19-oughts. Apparently, however, Rose stayed to help on Andrew’s and Rangdi’s farm for a year and a half (1907-1908) and then Ann came for another year and a half. It was while Rose was helping out on the farm that she met Ole Ellingboe. She “worked another summer” and then, presumably, married Ole.

In the 1920 census, she is living in Minneapolis at 1406 E. 22nd Street with her daughter Mary Willson and family. She is shown as 88 years old and having come to this country in 1877, naturalized as a citizen in 1885.

Spent her last years at 3338 Oakland Avenue S., Minneapolis, in the home of her daughter, Mary Willson.

Evey has a formal family photograph taken, probably, in the ‘teens that contains Rangdi with children Betsy, John, Johan, Mary, Erick, Knute, Belle, and Thomas.

Farming in Madison Township, Lac Qui Parle County, Minnesota, at the time of the 1900 census (June 1st). The family consisted of Thomas, 41 (born Nov 1858 in Norway), Randi, 33 (born Aug 1866 in Norway), Anna R., 8 (born Jan 1892 in Minnesota), Minnie B., 5 (born Nov 1894 in Minnesota), Elmer O., 4 (born Aug 1896 in Minnesota), Ingmar, 2 (born Feb 1898 in Minnesota), and Anton O., 2 months (born Mar 1900 in Minnesota). Naturalization as reported by Alison: 21 October 1897, 7th Judicial District Court, Long Prairie, Todd Co., Minnesota. Witnesses: E. C. Ellestad and Ben Gilbertson. Erick provided documentation that he made his initial declaration to become a US Citizen in the District Court of Dakota County, Minnesota. E. C. Ellestad may be Endre/Andrew Ellestad, perhaps the brother of the wife of Erik’s brother Tom and perhaps a cousin of Erik and Tom.

Came to live with Ole and Rose, apparently after his wife died.

Came to the U.S. in the spring of 1877 according to his obituary in the Northfield Independent on May 20, 1948. After their arrival in the U.S., Erick, his parents, brothers, and sisters lived in Farmington with Peter and Knute Thompson, his father’s brothers who “had already come and established homes. They made their home with them until they bought a farm in New Market by 1878. Erick attended public school in Dakota County. At the age of 21 his brother and he went to South Dakota to take homestead land, settling near Fredrick on a farm acquired by pre-emption. (Evey quotes her mother describing this as, “Someone had had a homestead there and had left it so [Erick] went to the courthouse and got a right to take that, you know, buy it.”) He, and later with his wife Gunhild, lived on their claim until 1890 when they moved to Hatton, N.D. (Rose said that the farm in South Dakota has “dried out.”) In 1892 or 1893, they moved to Clarissa, Minnesota. (Rose implied that they were going to Todd County because “Andrew Ellestad” lived there.) After a stay there of 25 years, he, with his family, moved to Waubun, and in 1940, he and his wife, whose health was failing, moved to Minneapolis.

“Mr. Thompson is survived by two brothers and one sister. Four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. He leaves 20 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.”

In the 1900 census, Erick and Julia are living on their farm in Ward township, Todd County. The family consists of Erick, 39 (born May 1861), Julia, 31 (born January 1869), Rosie, 10 (born January 1890), Anna, 8 (born Sept 1892), Mollie, 7 (born Mar 1893), Edward, 4 (born August 1895), Melvin, 3 (born April 1897), and Ellen, 1 (born Oct 1898). Erick and Julie had been married 10 years and Julia had had 6 children, all living. Rosie had been born in South Dakota, Anna in North Dakota, and the other children in Minnesota. Erick emigrated in 1877, Julia in 1887. Their farm is apparently mortgaged.

They are on the same farm in Ward Township at the time of the 1910 census in late April. The family is shown as Ernie A., 49, Julia, 42, Molley, 17, Eddie, 14, Melvin, 13, Ellen, 11, Ida, 9, George, 6, and Clarence, 4. Ernie and Julia had been married for 20 years. Julia had had 9 children, all 9 still living. They now own the farm free and clear, no mortgage.

In the “Benton, Meeker, and Todd Counties Minnesota Farm Directory, 1913-1914” (probably 1914 for Todd County), the Erick A. Thompson farm is shown as being in Sections 6 and 7, Ward Township, Todd County, Browerville Post Office. In addition to Erick A., the farm household consists of Julia, spouse, and Melvin, Ella, Ida, George, and Clarence, children. They had been in the county for 21 years.

The 1914 land ownership map of Ward Twp, Todd County, Minnesota, shows that “A E Thompson” owned 40 acres in the southeast corner of Section 6 and Julia H Thompson owned 100 acres across the road in the northeast corner of Section 7.

In March of 1920, the census indicates that the Thompsons were living in Lake Grove Township, Mahnomen County, Minnesota. Clarence, Melvin, and George were still at home.

They were in the same place at the time of the 1930 census. Erick A. is shown as 61, his wife Gunhild is shown as 62, George is 26 and Clarence is 24. The family does have a radio. (Erick was 68 at the time, of course. The census taker may have mistaken Erick’s claim that he was born in 1861.) The date of emigration for Erick is shown as 1884 and 1886 for Gunhild.

In the 1940 census, Erick, Julia, and Clarence lived on the family farm in Lake Grove Twp, Mahnomen County, Minnesota. They lived in the same house in which they had lived in 1935.

After his wife died, he moved in with Rose and Ole Ellingboe.

His obit said that he had been a patient in Sanford Hospital in Farmington for six months. He had moved his family to Clarissa in 1892 and stayed there for 25 years during which time he helped establish a church and a school, was a township supervisor, and served on the school board. He moved to Waubun in about 1917 and then, with his wife’s health failing, he and Julia moved to Minneapolis in 1940. After her death he stayed mostly with Ole and Rose.

His obit claimed that he was survived by two brothers and one sister (John, Johnnie, and Belle) and was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Andrew and Randy had been married 51 or 57 years. Randy had had 10 children, 8 still living. Minnie was apparently born in Minnesota (not clear), the other three in Norway and having emigrated in 1877. Minnie is apparently a servant.

Knute seems to be a “lodger” in Duluth at the time of the 1920 census. He is shown as 56 with no occupation.

His death certificate shows him as a single farmer of “Elkoe.” He died of stomach cancer. His sister Mary Willson was the informant. He had lived with her at 3338 Oakland for a month and a half before he died.

It would have been shortly after Knut died that the Willsons to in Rangdi.

The parents had been married for 10 years. All the children were born in Minnesota. Helga had had 5 children, all still living. John A. had come to this country in 1871, Helga in 1895. Their other next-door neighbor was the Edwin P. Ruh family. (John A. was also listed in the 1910 census with the Willsons in Minneapolis.)

At the time of the 1920 census (late January), the family was living in Eureka Township of Dakota County. The family consisted of John A., 50, Helga O., 39, Ralph O., 19, Margaret A., 17, Lillian B., 15, Helen A., 13, Ruth A., 11, Roger A., 8, Esther L., 6, and John O., 2 and 6 months. John came to this country from Norway in 1884 and was naturalized as a citizen in 1890. Helga came to this country from Norway in 1895 and was naturalized in 1901. Margaret is shown as a housekeeper for a private family.

At the time of the 1930 census (April), the family was living in New Market Township of Scott County. The family was John A., 61, Helga, 50, Ralph O., 29, Roger A., 18, Esther, 15, Johnny, 12, and Loyal, 9. John and Helga were married at ages 30 and 19 respectively and were both born in Norway.

Cemetery records show his year of birth as 1869.

The “Solor’s Lutheran Cemetery” was established in 1881 in Greenvale Twp, Dakota County. It was a 1 acre plot of land in Section 9, the southwest quarter of the northwest quarter. The cemetery was later abandoned and moved to Webster Twp, Rice County, about 6 miles west, to the location of the Solor Lutheran Church of Webster. It is not clear whether or not anyone is still buried at the Greenvale Twp location.

WEBSTER--(Special)--Funeral services for John A. Thompson, 80, who passed away at his home near Lakeville Sunday evening were held Wednesday afternoon, September 28, from the Solar Lutheran church, with the Rev. Hoff of Lakeville officiating. Burial was made in the Solar cemetery. John Thompson was born in Valdres, Norway, August 12, 1869. He was the son of Andrew and Randy (Elstad) Thompson. He came to this county with his parents at the age of 8, and settled in Lakeville community. On March 13, 1898 he was married to Hilga Hanson. He is survived by nine children, Mrs. George Bergstrom (Helen), Omaha, Neb.; Mrs. Eldo Murray (Margaret), Mrs. Clarence Tonsager (Ruth), Mrs. William Geister (Esther) all of Minneapolis; Mrs. Joe Docken (Lillian) of Webster; Ralph and Roger at home; Loyal of Eureka Center, Johnny of St. Paul; and 19 grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Belle Bergerson and one brother, Johnny both of Minneapolis. His wife passed away June 22, 1943.

He lived in Minneapolis at the time of his brother Jon’s death.

According to the St. Albans records, she arrived in North America aboard the Pretorian which had sailed from Liverpool on 29 Jan 1909. Her border crossing record said that she was from Aurdal in Valders. Her destination was Minneapolis. She appeared to be traveling with Engebrigt Svendasit a 31 year-old married man who lived in Minneapolis. (Perhaps her sister’s husband.) Ancestry’s indexing of that record has her arriving in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on 8 Feb 1909.

She may be the Rangdi Pedersdatter in the 1900 Norwegian census who lived on Vangshjellstuen 98/11 in Nordre Aurdal. That household consisted of Kristian Pedersen, born in 1834 in Rotkjøbing paa Langeland, bagermester og Gaardr; Marit Pedersen, b. 1835 in Vestre Slidre; Rangdi; and Malmfryd, telegrafbud.

From Digitalarkivet, that Rangdi was born 9 Jan 1884, baptized 6 July 1884, on Vangstuien in the Aurdal local parish of Nord-Aurdal. Her parents were Kristian Pedersen and Marit Pedersen, b. 1834 and 1836, respectively. Rangdi was a twin: her sister was Malfryd. Both children were confirmed in the same local parish on 9 April 1899. The farm is still Vangsgjellstuen. The twins’ mother’s name is shown as Marit Pedersdatter. The father’s occupation is Bager.

She was living at 3236 N. Thomas Avenue, Minneapolis, at the time of her death. Her obit said that she had lived in Minneapolis for 50 years and was a 40 year member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.

In the 1920 census, Ida and Samson and family were living in Belmont Twp, Trail County, N.D. with their three children and his two daughters from an earlier marriage. Samson had no occupation. His two daughters from the earlier marriage were listed as servants.

In the 1940 census, she was a 53 year-old widow living in Belmont Twp. Living with her were her daughter Irene and daughter Barbara with Barbara’s husband Walter.

At her death, her “usual residence” was in Buxton, Belmont Twp, North Dakota.

The cemetery was later abandoned and moved to Webster Twp, Rice County, about 6 miles west, to the location of the Solor Lutheran Church of Webster. It is not clear whether or not anyone is still buried at the Greenvale Twp location.

It is probably this Minnie who Rose was referring to when she said “Minnie worked for Grandma {Julia} for nine years.”

After her younger sister Ann had been in New Market for a year and a half, helping their grandmother Rangdi on the farm, Julia decided it was Rose’s turn. Rose recounted to Evey, “I had been sick. I went to school, and then I got the measles and my eyes got so bad, amd Ma wanted me to go down there then, because she though that would be nice for me. I had to take over the baking and everything, you know, when I came there. I was seventeen. I stayed there a year and a half then and then I came home again. I met your dad, then and he came up and visited us up in Clarissa. And then I went back in the spring to work for Knute. I worked another summer there and then I went home, and then I got married.”

To put Rose’s story in perspective, her sister Ann would have gone to New Market from Clarissa in the summer of 1903 and stayed in New Market until the early spring of 1905. Rose would have gone down to help her grandmother in, probably, the spring of 1907 and stayed there until late summer of early fall of 1908. In the spring of 1909 she went back to New Market to work for Knute (#1687) and went back to Clarissa in the late fall of 1909. She got married a few months later.

According to Evey, “Ma’s name was Rose though people always called her ‘Rosie’, probably because in Norwegian her name would have two syllables: ‘Ro’se’ (with a rolled r) and the e pronounced like an i. Due to a law which was later changed, Ma lost her citizenship when she married Pa and had to apply for citizenship later on with him.”

Rose M. Ellingboe, age 28, of Lakeville in Scott County, was included in the 1918 Alien Registration.

How Ole and Rose met, according to Evey: “Grandpa Thompson and family, including my mother, were by that time living near Waubun in Mahnomen County. When my mother, who was the oldest, was about eighteen years old, she went for a visit and to help out her grandmother Thompson near Webster. While she was there, she met a young man named Adolph Davidson (#13416) who lived near there. Adolph was a friend of my dad, and consequently my mother met him through Adolph. (It seems she once told me that she went out first with Adolph, so I think that is the way it happened.) Adolph and his wife, Inga, were their friends all their married life. Interesting side note: Inga (#11920) was a cousin of Annie, later to be Albert Ellingboe's wife.”

“My dad, being one of the oldest, built a half mile west of the old house when he married my mother. My mother sold our farm and moved into Lakeville, shortly after Pa died.Not far from there, was the area around Eureka Center and the East and West Christiania churches.”

The oldest child. Of Rose’s four sisters, none lived on farms after they were married. One lived in Colorado, one in Illinois, and the other two in Minneapolis. Two of the sisters were childless, one had two sons, and one had only one daughter.

Had to be “renaturalized” as a citizen because she married a non-citizen. This naturalization took place in Minneapolis, U.S. District Court, 4th Division, on November 10, 1937, with Ole’s naturalization. In the naturalization certificate, Rose is described as 5’4” tall, 110 lbs., blue eyes, light brown hair.

In the 1950 census, Rose and Jeanette live on Morgan Street in the village of Lakeville. Rose is a cook’s aid in a cafe.

Rose went to Europe in the summer of 1958. Her trip included a visit to Sweden to daughter-in-law Anna’s relatives. In a letter to Sweden in September of 1958, Anna says: “Ed’s mother is back safely, she had a nice trip. We never thought she would go to Sweden! Thanks to Olle for he was kind to drive her to Östersund. She told us of Olle and Gösta how kind they are and how fun she had with you all. She has now seen Sweden but she don’t know anyone there.”

As Evey quotes Rose, when her grandmother Rangdi needed some help on the farm in New Market, Anna was sent down on the train from Clarissa. “Ann was eleven years old then, going on twelve. She was supposed to go in company with a student from Augsburg that was out there preaching in our little church, but he wrote afterwards to Dad and Mother and said he was on the train but he didn’t see Dad’s daughter. So she got to Minneapolis all by herself. And then Aunt Mary met her at the depot. Ann was there [in New Market], helping her grandmother Rangdi, a year and a half.”

In the 1910 census, she may be the Anna Thompson, 17, who was a servant for a family in Akeley Twp, Hubbard County, Minnesota.

An Anna Thompson married a Peter Peterson in Hennepin County on 10 Sept 1918. An Anna Thompson married an Arthur M Peterson in Yellow Medicine County on 7 May 1919.

In the 1920 census, Ann and Arnold were living at 2705 Stevens Avenue, in the upstairs. They were each 28 years old. Arnold was a merchant tailor. Ann was a telephone operator.

She and Arnold were living at 2621 2nd Avenue South in Minneapolis at the time of the 1930 census. Arnold R., a tailor, is 37. Ann M. is 36. They had been married between 9 and 12 years. Arnold was born in Minnesota but his parents were born in Sweden. Arnold was a veteran of the World War.

In the 1940 census, Arnold and Anna live at 2617 Clinton Avenue in Minneapolis in a rented apartment. Arnold has an 8th grade education, Anna a fifth-grade education. Arnold is an assistant custodian at a men’s lodge or lodging. Anna is a custodian of an apartment building.

In the 1943 directory, he and Edith lived at 2219 South. He was repairman for Goodwill Industries.

In the 1944 Duluth city directory, he was Melvin O Thompson, wife Edith, who lived at 2219 South. In this and all of the succeeding Duluth directories through 1960, he and Edith continued to live at 2219 South but Melvin had no occupation.

Lived at 2219 East South Street in Duluth at the time of death. His death certificate shows that he had been educated through the eighth grade. He died of bronchial pneumonia complicated by or brought on by lymphocitic leukemia. The information in his death certificate came from Melvin Thompson, 1621 Beach Parkway, #202, Cape Coral, Florida.

His obituary was published on p. D02 of the June 5, 1991, edition of the Duluth News-Tribune:

In the 1950 census, Clarence and Gert, with their sons Clarence and Ronald, lived on a farm in Eureka Twp, Dakota County, Minnesota. Clarence was a farmer and Gertrude was a nurse at a city hospital.

Clarence was living in Elk River when his brother Edward died. Clarence was the informant for Edward’s death certificate. He was also living in Elk River when his brothers George and Melvin died.

On May 2, 2002, Alison drove Clarence to see the old Thompson farm in Clarissa.

An article in the Star on March 2, 1940, describes how he was held up, perhaps at gunpoint, by three men who “roughed” him up and stole his wallet containing $14 in cash.

Lived at 707 27th Avenue S.E. at the time of his death. His spouse’s name is shown as Anna and she was the informant for the information on his death certificate. He died of asphyxia caused by a massive pulmonary hemorrhage aggravated by lung cancer.

The cemetery was later abandoned and moved to Webster Twp, Rice County, about 6 miles west, to the location of the Solor Lutheran Church of Webster. It is not clear whether or not anyone is still buried at the Greenvale Twp location.

Barbara J. Spillum passed away March 13, 2012, at Marshall Hospital in Placerville, Calif., with her daughter Ida at her side. She was born Oct. 4, 1917, in Buxton, N.D. She was the daughter of Samson and Ida Nesvig. She married Walter D. Spillum on Dec. 5, 1939, in Crookston, Minn. She was a homemaker most of her life and made her home with her husband in Crookston until 1943, when they moved to Grand Forks, N.D. This was her home until 2001, when she moved to California to be with her daughter and son-in-law, John and Ida Brady in Vacaville. In 2003, Barbara moved to Pollock Pines, Calif., with John and Ida.

Barbara will be missed by all she knew throughout her life and we were truly blessed to have had her in our lives. Barbara was a kind, supporting and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved her crocheting, reading and puzzles and kept herself busy in her later life. She married the love of her life, William D. Boldrey, on March 21, 1942, in Grand Haven, and they raised two daughters together.
In 1966 Geraldine graduated from Mercy College in Detroit and worked many years as a social director at Brightmoor Community Center.

She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, American Association of University Women and she was a volunteer with The Dennos Museum.

She is survived by a daughter, Christine Weber; grandson, Chad William Boldrey-Read; nieces, Marjorie (Dennis) West, Kristin West, Megan West-Fogarty, Nancy Cooper and Susan Boldrey; nephew, Winn Boldrey; and son-in-law, Bob Reed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Boldrey; daughter, Diane Boldrey-Read; sister, Eunice Quennell; and nieces, Patricia Brady and Catherine Boldrey.

She will be remembered as a loving, sweet, giving and generous person. Gerry had a wonderful sense of humor. She was a devoted mother and wife. Gerry was loved by all and will be missed by all.

She was united in marriage to Oliver Skeim on November 6, 1949 in Grafton. Shirley operated her shop until 1999 when she retired. She moved to the Good Samaritan Center in October of 2007.

Shirley was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and the Park River American Legion Auxiliary.

Ardis married Roald Braseth on February 20, 1935 in Crookston, MN. The couple lived, farmed and started to raise their children near Caledonia until 1949. When they moved into Caledonia Ardis worked as a cook at the Caledonia High School for several years. She also worked on a seasonal basis for many years at the Jiffy Fry French Fry Plant in Crookston, MN. She retired and they moved to West Fargo in 1981; while in West Fargo, Ardis was a nanny for many different families. She moved to Eventide in 2005. Ardis was known for her love of cooking, canning, and baking, especially brownies. She also enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren, watching the Minnesota Twins and the Lawrence Welk Show. Ardis is survived by her three children: Gerald (LaDonna) Braseth, of West Fargo, Barbara Bueng, of Twin Valley, MN and Ronald (Jenell) Braseth, of Mayville, ND, seven grandchildren: Kimberly, Mitchell, Claudia, Jason, Melissa, Angela and Brian along with nine great-grandchildren. As Helen Powers, she survived her sister Beverly who died in 2013.

Helen B. Powers, 94, died Monday, May 18, 2015. Born on January 23, 1921, in Fargo, North Dakota, Helen later moved to St. Charles, Illinois, where she met her late husband, Robert T. Powers. They were high school and college sweethearts and married in 1943. They spent 54 happy years together until his death in 1998. As she began to lose her memory in 2003, Helen joined the Rush University Memory and Aging Project, hoping to benefit Alzheimer's research. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Campbell of Wilmette; daughter, Susan Powers of Chicago, son, Robert Powers of Sedona, AZ, four grandchildren, Elisabeth Campbell Pudik, John Scott Campbell, Jessica Powers and Kristen Ehrlich and three great-grandchildren, Samuel, Lauren and Jane Pudik. Walter Lorrain Bagge, 94, of Golden Valley, MN passed away on May 23, 2018 at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN from complications resulting from abdominal surgery. Walter was born on March 3, 1924 in Bingham Twp, Traill County, ND to Edwin and Lydia (Swanson) Bagge. After graduation from Caledonia High School, he married Juanita Gadberry on November 18, 1944 just weeks before he left for active duty in the Navy. During the war, he served on the USS Langley aircraft carrier and was hours out of Toyko Bay when the atomic bomb was used to end the war. The USS Langley was converted to a troop carrier and Walter spent the rest of his Navy service returning German & Italian POWs from the USA to Naples, Italy and bringing back USA servicemen. Once Walter was discharged in 1946, he attended college at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Upon the death of his father in 1948, Walter and Juanita moved back to his family farm in Traill County, ND where they began expanding and intensifying the farming enterprise for the next four decades; as well as developed a trucking, construction, aggregate and a mining enterprise in AZ with his son. Walter devoted a considerable amount of time serving on church, school and township boards; as well as, years as a soil conservation district supervisor. During their retirement years, Walter and Juanita enjoyed the family lake home in Detroit Lakes, MN and their winter home in AZ where Walter became a Master Wood Carver. They spent years enjoying extended stays with their brothers and sisters throughout CA and AZ before settling in GA close to their daughter Kay. In 2013, they moved to Golden Valley, MN to be close to their son Brad, Susan, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Walter is survived by his sister Donna Benson Portland, OR; his children: Bradley E Bagge (Susan) Golden Valley, MN and Rosalie Kay Hamilton (Bill) Kennesaw, GA; his four grandchildren: Jocelyn Bagge Schmidt (William), Jonathan Bagge (Stephanie), Courtney Bagge MacKall (James) and Matthew Bagge; and, his four great-grandchildren: Sydney Raquel Bagge, August Jacklynn Bagge, Otto Albert Schmidt and Lydia Rose Schmidt. Walter was preceded in death by Juanita, his wife of 73 years on January 30, 2018; his parents; his sisters: Shirley, Ardis, Helen, and Beverly; and his brother John. Hellekson, Beverly Bagge, age 87, died peacefully at home Oct. 23 following a long struggle with a spinal cord tumor and a two-month bout with heart failure. Born Oct. 3, 1926, Bev grew up with six siblings on a farm in Traill County, ND, and graduated from Caledonia High School, where, at 5'4", she was captain of the girls' basketball team. After working at a Chicago insurance company and attending college at UW-Madison and UND, Bev married Gordon Hellekson in 1949. They were at home in Grand Forks before relocating to Minneapolis in 1956. Bev was the consummate homemaker, known for her culinary skills, creative birthday parties and lovely flower garden. She retired from secretarial work with Edina Schools around 1990, but never retired from being a devoted mother. Her 2012 move from her home on Hawkes Drive, Edina, site of countless bridge club and dinner parties, marked the end of a wonderful era. Bev is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gordy; sister Shirley Thoe Skeim; and brother John (Vonnie) Bagge. She is survived by her daughter, Diane; son, Jim; grandson, Linden Holt; and siblings Ardis Braseth, Walter (Juanita) Bagge, Helen Powers, and Donna Benson. Private interment at Fort Snelling.

Adeline Eleanor Tallman was born on September 11, 1920, in Webster, Minnesota, to George and Minnie (Thompson) Snesrud. She was raised in Webster, baptized and confirmed at Solar Lutheran  Church, and graduated from Faribault High School in 1937. She married John W. “Jack” Tallman Jr. on June 21, 1938, at Solar Lutheran Church. After marriage they lived in Webster and Dodge Center where Jack operated turkey farms and Adeline was a homemaker and raised four children. They moved to Faribault in 1952 when Jack began his management career as General Manager of Faribault Turkeys, Inc.  Adeline supported him in his career which took him to Rochester, Alabama and Utah. Prior to retirement Jack was the President of Norbest Turkeys. Inc., in Salt Lake City.  Adeline enjoyed the opportunity to travel with Jack internationally with his job and visit children living overseas. Following retirement, they split time between Depoe Bay, Oregon and Green Valley, Arizona. Jack passed away in 1999, and Adeline moved to Northfield in May 2006.
 
In addition to raising her four children, Adeline was active in the Lutheran churches in Faribault, Salt Lake, Arizona and Oregon, volunteering, attending classes and singing in the choir. Adeline devoted her life to caring for her husband and children and enjoyed spending her time reading, going for walks, traveling, as well as baking pies and cookies for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
 
Survivors include her children and their spouses: Beverly Lubbers of Northfield, Wesley and Joyce Tallman of Panama, Eileen and Jon Summers of Cambodia, Scott and Petra Tallman of Arkansas; 7 grandchildren: Laurel (Tim) Ley, Lisa (Tito) Warren, Elizabeth Summers (Christian Buhr), Sarah Summers (Eric Fudeman), Christopher (Kara Lee) Tallman, Joline (Rodrick) Thorton, Jessica Tallman; 10 great-grandchildren: Heather, Olivia, Austin, Colton, Blake, Andrew, Myles, Kendra, Madden, Dylan; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and her brother Russell.
 
Adeline passed away surrounded by her family on Friday morning, February 5, 2010, at Millstream Commons in Northfield, at the age of 89.

Thompson, Duane E. age 86, of Bloomington, Minnesota, formerly of Clarissa, died on Thursday, June 20, 2019, at his home. Interment is at the church cemetery. Full military honors accorded by the Minnesota Honor Guard and the Parkers Prairie American Legion Post #219.

Duane Elmer was born on July 25, 1932, to Elmer and Emma (Volenec) Thompson on the family farm near Browerville. He was baptized on December 1, 1932 and confirmed on October 16, 1949, at Bethel Church near Clarissa. Duane attended District #123 Country School through the eighth grade. Following his education, he started working for Swift & Co. in South St. Paul. Duane was united in marriage to Eleanor Hedlund on January 31, 1953, at Esther Lutheran Church in Eastern Township. Shortly after their wedding, Duane was stationed in Japan while he served in the United States Army from March 13, 1953 until his honorable discharge in February of 1955. He returned home and went back to work at Swift & Co, until 1967. Duane then began working for the Bloomington School System as a custodian and bus driver before eventually becoming the Chief Engineer. Duane retired in 1994. He was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Bloomington and former member of Esther Lutheran Church. Duane also was part of the camping group called the Rochester Roamers. He enjoyed working, traveling and camping. Duane especially loved taking trips with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; an infant son; sister, Evelyn Sada; and two brothers, Loyd Thompson and Donald Thompson.

Duane is survived by his wife of 66 years, Eleanor; two sons, Kevin (Mary) Thompson of River Bank, California and Keith (Lois) Thompson of Bloomington; daughter, Karla (Donny) Kalpin of Leaf Valley; two brothers, Gary (Kathy) Thompson of Eagle Bend and LeRoy Thompson of Rogers; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He is listed twice in the 1930 census: at home with his parents and as a farm laborer lodging with the Raymond Hussong family on their farm in Alba Twp, Jackson County, Minnesota.

In the 1940 census, he is living at home in New Market with his parents and siblings. He was a high school graduate and was employed as a mechanic.

Registered for the draft in Shakopee on 16 Oct 1940. He claimed to be self-employed and living with his parents at 2 Lakeville in New Market. The registration card shows that he was inducted on May 4, 1941.

From a write-up of “Old Timer” W.O. Edwin O. Ellingboe in the North Star Guardian, sometime in 1961:

It was May, 1941, when WO Edwin O. “Ellie” Ellingboe, ABRON’s Motor Vehicle Maintenance Officer, volunteered for the draft. Just after Pearl Harbor, he joined the 109th at Esler Field, Louisiana, and went overseas to southern England where he spent 22 months in training.

June 1944 marks the invasion of Europe. The 109th crossed the channel to France during the night in Liberty ships. From Ellie’s ship, trucks were unloaded onto barges to make the landing. Ellie boarded the last barge where he discovered he was the ranking NCOIC. He recalls, “While we were in the channel, both the outboard motors on our barge quit and we started drifting. To make matters worse, we were under attack from German aircraft. Finally, we got the motors started and made our landing. I waited for the last truck to be unloaded. By that time, we were separated from the rest of our squadron so we bunked under the truck until morning when we joined the rest of our outfit.”

At first, Ellie and his men were located at a front line air strip near St. Lo (No. A-9 for the benefit of the other Old-Timers). From there, he continued to move through France with the 109th. “I’ll never forget my first morning in Versailles. I woke up to find a dead Jerry lying almost beside me,” remembers Ellie.

Next came Paris, then a move to Gosselies, Belgium {a part of the Belgian town of Charleroi} - about 35 miles from the Battle of the Bulge. During the winter of 1944, his outfit was on the receiving end of several German bombing raids, including a few attacks by V-1s.

“One evening,” remembers Ellie, “three crippled bombers with full bomb loads landed at our base and skidded into a stockpile of petroleum drums. The crew members got out O.K. but the resulting fire set off all the bombs. That was the best Fourth of July celebration I’ve ever seen.”

The 109th was at Eschwagen, Germany, when the war ended. German aircraft literally poured into the field to surrender rather than land at Russian-held bases.

Next, the 109th was re-assigned to the China-Burma-India theatre of operations. But all those who had sufficient service time (including Ellie) were transferred to non-combat organizations. Ellie spent a short time with the 155th Photo Reconnaissance Squadron, then reassigned to the States where he was discharged at Camp McCoy in March, 1947. Ellie joined the Guard as an Air Technician.

South Minneapolis residents, Ellie and his wife, Ann, have two daughters, 10 and 7. Fishing and reading are Ellie’s pastimes.

In the 1950 St. Paul city directory, he was Edwin O, auto repair, National Guard Air Base. He resided in Minneapolis.

In the 1950 census, mistakenly called Edward, he and Anna lived at 2436 11th Avenue in south Minneapolis in the “rear” apartment. Edwin was a mechanic for “air service.”

Died of heart disease at the age of 58. First heart attack at age 51 in February of 1962.

Arthur Raymond Ellingboe was born in Scott County, Minnesota, on August 2, 1912, to Ole and Rose (Thompson) Ellingboe. He was raised on his parents’ farm and attended the nearby country school.

On June 17, 1936, he was united in marriage to Margaret Oline Klefstad. They farmed together in Scott County until 1941 when they bought and ran their own farm in Dakota County, north of Northfield, until 1948. Arthur and Margaret then moved to Northfield and later, in 1952, to their longtime home in Waterford where they raised their two sons. Arthur began working at Dr. Garlie’s Veterinary Clinic as Office Manager and Vet Assistant, retiring in 1977. Not one to stay idle, he then worked at the Northrup King Research Station in Stanton for the next ten years.

Arthur was involved as a volunteer with the Civil Defense Organization in the area and a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Northfield. He and Margaret spent a number of winters in Arizona, largely in Apache Junction. In 1995, they moved to Parkview Manor in Northfield.

Arthur died on Sunday, January 12, 2003, at Abbot Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis at the age of 90.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margaret, sons Richard (Debera) of Eugene, Oregon, and John (Catherine Cella) of Edina, Minnesota; eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, sisters Beulah (Lloyd) Luckman of Northfield, Minnesota, Helen Henry of Minnetonka, Minnesota, Evelyn (Gaylord) Horwath of Faribault, Minnesota, brother-in-law John Menne, sisters-in-law Anna and Veola Ellingboe, and many other relatives and friends.

Arthur Ellingboe, age 90, of Northfield, died Jan. 12, 2003, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Arthur Raymond Ellingboe was born Aug. 2, 1912, to Ole and Rose (Thompson) Ellingboe in Scott County. He was raised on his parents' farm and attended the nearby Country School. On June 17, 1936, he was united in marriage to Margaret Oline Klefstad. They farmed together in Scott County until 1941 when they bought and ran their own farm in Dakota County, north of Northfield, until 1948. They then moved to Northfield and later, in 1952, to their longtime home in Waterford where they raised two sons. He began working at Dr. Garlie's Veterinary Clinic as office manager and vet assistant retiring in 1977. Not one to stay idle, he then worked at the Northrup King Research Farm in Stanton for the next 10 years. He was involved as a volunteer with the Civil Defense Organization in the area and was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church. They spent a number of winters in Arizona, largely in Apache Junction. In 1995, they moved to Parkview Manor. Ellingboe is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margaret; two sons, Richard (Debera) of Eugene, Ore., and John (Catherine Cella) of Edina; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Beulah (Lloyd)Luckman of Northfield, Helen Henry of Minnetonka, and Evelyn (Gaylord) Horwath of Faribault; one brother-in-law, John Menne; two sisters-in-law, Anna and Veola Ellingboe; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Edwin and Oscar, and one sister Jeanette. Another sister, Ruby Linderholm, passed away several hours after Arthur. Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church, the Revs. John Quam and Craig Ellingboe officiating. The organist was Ruth Ferguson and the soloist was Bradley Ellingboe. Interment was at Red Rose Cemetery, north of Waterford. Pallbearers were Peter Ellingboe, Michael Ellingboe, Stephen Ellingboe, Bradley Ellingboe, Randy Ellingboe, and Donald Heeman. Arrangements were with Bierman Funeral Home.

Beulah Genevieve Ellingboe Luckman was born May 25, 1915, at home in New Market Township, Scott County, Minnesota, to Ole and Rose (Thompson) Ellingboe. She was baptized on July 3, 1915, and confirmed on June 30, 1930, at Christiania Lutheran Church. She attended Lakeville schools. On June 17, 1936, she was united in marriage with Lloyd Winfield Luckman at Christiania Lutheran Church. After marriage they farmed in the Lakeville and Crystal Lake areas and then near Castle Rock. In 1960, they moved to Northfield and Beulah worked as a nurses aid. From the mid 1960's until the late 1970's she worked in food service at St. Olaf College. Lloyd passed away December 27, 2006. Beulah was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she had been active in Circle, Ladies Aid, as a Sunday School teacher, and helping serve at funerals. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and sewing. She was a kind, good hearted Christian, and she loved her family dearly.

Survivors include 4 children: Carol Brenner of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Edwin and wife Rev. Peggy of Tillamook, Oregon, Sharon Ann Satre of St. Paul, Charles of Northfield; her daughter-in-law, Sylvia Luckman of Faribault; 13 grandchildren: Darla (Alex) Hanson, Steven Luckman, Susan (Ed) Narewski, Donna (Ed) Gensemer, James Brenner, Brandon (Julie) Luckman, Michael and Joseph Satre, William, Ryan, Genevie, Bridget and Cheyenne Luckman; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn and husband Gaylord Horwath of Faribault; her sister-in-law, Jeanette Severson of Roseville; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Beulah passed away Saturday evening, October 11, 2008, at the Northfield Hospital at the age of 93.

Music will provided by Randy Ellingboe and Alexandra Smith.  Interment will be in Northfield Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7PM Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home in Northfield. Visitation will continue on Thursday at the church one hour prior to the service.

He was a former member of the American Legion Post #246 and a former member of the Moline Moose Lodge. He enjoyed camping and did so for 20 years. He liked to play bingo and won all the time. He loved a good game of euchre with his family at Christmas and still could beat them all. Jay Carlton Ross was born June 26, 1934, in St. Helens, to Clarence Thompson and Fern Luff, and later adopted by his stepfather, Laurence Ross. Jay grew up in St. Helens and, as a teenager, lived with his grandparents, Charlie and Effie Luff.

He married Leslie Rae Seder, daughter of Ted and Lula (Adelhart) Seder, Dec. 21, 1958. He graduated from the University of Oregon in 1960 with a bachelor's degree in marketing. Jay worked in all aspects of the home construction and real estate sales industries, holding both a real-estate broker's license and a general contractor's license. In addition to selling real estate, he also developed subdivisions and owned and operated Jay C. Ross Construction. Jay was a master carpenter.

He retired early to pursue his hobbies, and supplemented his retirement income with finish carpentry. During his retirement, Jay and Leslie enjoyed traveling and took many trips to Europe together. They also enjoyed trips to several U.S. cities with New Orleans being their favorite. Jay was a lifelong outdoorsman who was both an avid hunter and fisherman. During the '60s and '70s, he owned, bred and field trialed AKC field champion German shorthaired pointers, and both American Field and AKC field champion English pointers. He spent a great deal of time hunting upland game birds with his dogs. His hunting dog hobby expanded into owning a Tennessee walking horse and trail riding. From the '80s through the remainder of his life, Jay's interest shifted mainly towards sport fishing for salmon and steelhead. He owned several jet sleds and loved to fish the upper Willamette in the summer and Tillamook Bay in the fall. Jay also enjoyed target shooting and gun collecting. He was a member of the Chehalem Valley Sportsman Club and the National Rifle Association.

Jay is survived by his wife, Leslie of Tualatin; daughter, Alison Fuchs (Michael) of Beaverton; son, Martin Ross of Ballard, Wash.; grandson, Henry Fuchs of Beaverton; brothers, Butch Thompson of Sarona, Wis., Kenny Thompson of Menagha, Minn., and Larry Ross of Anchorage, Alaska. He was preceded in death by his birth and adoptive parents; and brother, Ronald Thompson. An informal celebration of life will be held in the fall when his son can attend. In her spare time, she loved to play cards, even learning a new game a week before she passed. Her love of sports, especially basketball, was unmatched.

Funeral services will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, Webster on Thursday, October 25, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Harold Schoubye officiating.  Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault on Wednesday, October 24 from 4 to 7 p.m. and also at the church for one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Nordis Jeanette, the daughter of Joe and Lillian (Thompson) Docken was born on September 7, 1923 in Webster Township, Rice County, MN. She graduated from Northfield High School in 1941. On November 17, 1944, she married Walbert Meinke at St John's Lutheran Church in Lakeville. During the late 30's and 40's, Nordis worked at Tallman's Grocery in Webster.  She moved to the farm in 1951 with her husband and son, Robert. She enjoyed playing cards, fishing for sunfish, tending flowers (anything purple and red geraniums), watching the Minnesota Twins, embroidering dishtowels, tablecloths, pillow cases and cross-stitching. She raised calves and enjoyed milking cows. She was close to family and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. Nordis made great date pinwheel cookies and assorted baked goods. She had a sweet tooth especially for black jellybeans and candy corn.

She is survived by her husband, Walbert of Webster; a son, Robert (and Stephanie) of Bloomington; two grandchildren, Matthew (and Molly) Meinke of Apple Valley and Katie Meinke of Bloomington; a brother, Joe (and Lorna) Docken of Webster and a sister, JoAnn Meinke of Webster; nieces, nephews and cousins; an uncle, Loyal Thompson of Minneapolis; and a sister in law, Olinda Degen, Faribault. Joe, son of Joseph and Lillian Docken, was born in Northfield on June 26, 1933. He married Lorna (Meyer) on June 30, 1962. He raised and nurtured a family of five, tended his family’s farm homestead and served the Solor Lutheran Church community for decades. He was passionate about baseball, following the Minnesota Twins, playing baseball on the DRS league and coaching Webster Town & Country. He was a dedicated worker, engaged in farming and Fredrickson Cement. As stated by his teacher, Ruben Hovland, in 1951, “Joe displays a good clean character. His thoughts, words and actions are always a compliment to his home and family.” He displayed his character until his last day.

Joe is survived by his wife, Lorna; daughters, Lorie (Bob Batyko) and Jody (Darren) Curl; sons, Kevin (Nada), Jim (Tiffany) and Mark; ten grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and his twin sister, JoAnn (Meinke). He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Nordis (Meinke) and Jerome.

Bruce Dennis Spillum was born August 18, 1945, in Grand Forks, to Walter and Barbara (Nesvig) Spillum. He grew up in Grand Forks and graduated from Grand Forks Central High School. He earned both his bachelor's degree and master's degree in Education from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. Bruce was married to Jackie Thomforde in Grand Forks on June 11, 1966. He taught music in Wood Lake, Minnesota from 1965 until 1969, followed by ten years teaching music at Preston, Minnesota. In 1979, he and his family moved to Huron where Bruce taught elementary music for seven years. In 1986, he began teaching middle school English, which he taught until he retired in 2000. He was honored as the 1998-1999 Huron Middle School ""Teacher of the Year'. Bruce was a member of Riverview United Methodist Church where he was the choir director for many years. He was a member of the Huron Masonic Lodge #26 and El Riad Shrine Temple. Bruce was very active in musical activities in the community, including the Huron City Band, the Huron Symphony and various other groups. He was also a current board member of the Huron Symphony League.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Jackie, of Huron; three daughters, Stephanie (DaNiel) Wood of Sioux Falls, SD, Heidi (Sergio) Vazquez of Highland, Calif., and Wendy (Shane) Talbott of Queen Creek, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Caden and Devin Wood, Matthew Gussiaas and Isabela Vazquez, and Kylie Talbott; his mother, Barbara Spillum of Pollock Pines, Calif.; his sister, Ida (John) Brady, also of Pollock Pines; many extended family members; and his special friends with whom he enjoyed playing cards and spending time. Diane had been a certtified scuba instructor, was a voracious reader and enjoyed playing cards and board games. She was also a very gifted and talented Calligropher. Diane had attended Central United Methodist Church.

Darrell Lamonte Wegge, age 84 of Grand Forks, died on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Valley Eldercare in Grand Forks. A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 29, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Amundson Funeral Home in Grand Forks. Visitation will be one hour before service time at the Funeral Home.
 
Darrell Lamonte Wegge, a son of Thorwald Wegge and Shirley (Thoe) Skeim, was born on May 30, 1933 at Buxton. He was reared and educated in the area. On June 17, 1950 he entered the US Army. Darrell served in the Korean war. On July 9, 1953 he was honorably discharged. After his discharge he returned home. On December 2, 1957 he was married to Beverly Quist. After their marriage they moved to Grand Forks where he work as a sewing machine salesman. In 1969 they owned and operated the Baseview Café in Emerado until 1974. Darrell started doing carpentry work specializing in cabinets and remodeling. He was a Semi-retired builder until he retired in 2007.  Darrell had continued to make Grand Forks his home.

He enjoyed woodworking, cooking for his family and spending time with his grandchildren. Darrell was a Korean War Veteran.
 
He is survived by his wife, Beverly at home; sons, Mark Wegge and Jeff Wegge; daughters, Sherry and her husband David Roe and Debbie and her husband Steve Raasakka; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lydia Kelly and Bonnie (Larry) Dvorak and a brother Gary Skeim.

Carol Preston died, unexpectedly, at home in Fargo, ND on July 7, 2015 at the age of 80. Born March 16, 1935, in Bagley, MN, Carol Ann Braseth graduated from Caledonia, ND High School where she was a cheerleader, basketball player, and Valedictorian of her class. She attended Fargo Business College, then worked in Minneapolis at Reynolds Aluminum Co. She married DeVere Preston, a farmer and newspaperman for the Hillsboro Banner on November 24, 1956. Carol gave birth to three children in Hillsboro, ND, then went on to raise them in Windom, Jackson, Fergus Falls and Breckenridge, MN. Carol spent the last 22 years in Fargo, ND, following DeVere’s retirement in 1993. Their marriage was 46 years strong when she sadly lost DeVere in 2003. A loyal friend and devoted wife and mother, Carol will be remembered for her gift of gab, witty humor and enduring elegance. She was energetic, intelligent, had a memory like a “steel trap”, an avid bridge player and reader of current events who enjoyed discussing politics from all sides. Carol lived her last 12 years, independently, caring for her house and yard. Many friends and relatives sought her expert opinion in decorating, especially her talented eye for color. She was a caregiver for many throughout her life and very proud of her Norwegian heritage, which she displayed in her stoic and compassionate character.

Carol was preceded in death by her father Roald Braseth and brother-in-law Curtis Bueng. She is survived by her children; Kimberley Preston, Mitchell Preston and Claudia Preston (Joe) Storey; granddaughters Danielle and McKenzie Storey; siblings Gerald (LaDonna) Braseth, Barbara Bueng and Ronald (Jenell) Braseth; and her mother Ardis Braseth; many nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews. In March of this year, Carol and Ardis celebrated their 80th and 100th birthdays, respectively, with family and friends. We lost you too suddenly – you were dearly loved and will be missed.

Gina Louise Lien, 54 of Cooperstown, ND, died Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Gina was born March 15, 1958 in Cooperstown, ND to Ovidia (Soma) and Lloyd Thompson. She grew up and graduated from high school in Cooperstown. She married Larry Lien on October 25, 1975 in Cooperstown. Gina worked at the Cooperstown Nursing Home, Sheyenne Tooling and V-W Motors.

Gina loved spending time with her family, and taking care of her dogs. She enjoyed watching and participating in demolition derbies and watching Larry and Garret drag race. Gina also liked to take trips to Las Vegas.

Gina is survived by her husband, Larry of Cooperstown; 3 children, Garett Lien of Washburn, ND, Shane (Theresa) Lien of Sioux Falls, SD, and Lori Lien (Mark Gjavenis) of Apple Valley, MN; grandchildren, Preston Dahl, Stephen Lien and Austin Lien; parents, Ovidia and Clifford Anderson of Cooperstown; siblings, Gail (Farrel) Carlson of Bismarck, ND, Suzanne (Kevin) Nelson of Fargo, Lisa Thompson of Fargo, Laura (Jody) Brorby of Bismarck, and Rusty (Marlene) Thompson of Cooperstown.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lloyd Thompson; 3 infant sons; and her beloved dogs, Squeaky and Omar.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 24, 2012 at 10:30 am at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cooperstown, ND.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 23, 2012 from 5:00 till 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM in the Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home in Cooperstown, ND.

Interment will be in the Ness Cemetery, rural Cooperstown, ND.
