Sigrid Helgesdatter Igda was born August 26, 1814 at Vang, Valders, Norway to Helge Helgerson Igda and Sigrid Olesdatter Lokreim. She married Torkild Andersen Estrem on May 22, 1844.
Torkild, Sigrid and their family made papers to come to America on March 9, 1849. He was 43 and she was 34. They came by sailboat settling first in Wisconsin and then about two years later they moved to near Decorah, Iowa. On the 16th day of June in 1854 Torkild was granted his United States citizenship under the name of Therschel Andersen.

Mrs. Ingeborg Haugen passed away February 2 on her farm two and a half miles west of Union Lake at the age of seventy-five years. Mrs. Haugen had been ill for several months, but had been able to be up and around until two weeks prior to her death. On the morning of February 2 she died suddenly from a heart attack.
She leaves to mourn her death six children, namely, Talmar Haugen at home, Gust Haugen on a neighboring farm, Knute Haugen, Northfield, Mrs. Paul Overby, Binford, N.D., Mrs. Albert Thorpe, Minneapolis. Two brothers, Christ Estrem, Petersburg, Neb., Andrew Estrem, Decorah, Iowa, and several grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Gilbert; an infant buried on the farm in Nebraska; Gustav Martinus born December 16, 1879, died March 5, 1893 buried at Closter, Nebraska; and Albert born November 9, 1885, died July 28, 1908 buried at Binford, North Dakota

Noard was born on June 24, 1920 to Christ and Genevieve (Rassmussen) Hemsing at the family home in Maynard, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at Maynard Lutheran Church and attended Maynard Public Schools.
n July 30, 1938 she was united in marriage to Leon "Red" Noard. They lived in Montevideo until 1977 when they moved to Lake Amelia. Red died in 1987 and Gladys remained at their lake home until her health forced her to move to Montevideo in 1997. Gladys worked at Hemstad's Greenhouse for many years and excelled in designing bouquets and corsages, primarily for weddings. She loved cooking, hunting, fishing and working in the outdoors doing lawn care and flower and vegetable gardening. Gladys was a good neighbor and a loving friend to all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leon in 1987; a son-in-law, Dennis Peterson; and three brothers: Alfred, Nels and Clarence Hemsing.

Mrs. Willett was born Aug. 25, 1909, to Paul and Sophia Haugen Overby in Binford, N.D. She grew up and attended school at Binford. She later moved to Northfield, Minn., where she worked as a housekeeper and at a school for children.
She met Leon Willett in Northfield and on Feb. 9, 1935, they were married at Faribault, Minn. They made their home at Northfield for many years. It was at this time that Inga became a homemaker. They lived in Waverly, Iowa, for 13 years and in 1976 moved to Pullman, where they have made their home since.
She loved antiques, flowers and enjoyed gardening and going to rummage sales. Children and young people were always important to her. She was a member of the Non Denominational Church.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Leon, at their Pullman home; two sons and their wives, Roger and Thelma Willett of Pullman and Bryce and Melinda Willett of Carlsbad, Calif.; three brothers, Byron Overby of Wilmot, S.D., Roy Overby of Bismark, N.D., and Cleon Moe in Michigan; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Viola Teslow, age 98, of Decorah, IA, died Saturday morning, November 8, 2014 at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint Marys Campus in Rochester, MN.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Decorah, with Rev. Mark Kvale officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 11 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and on Wednesday beginning at 10:00 a.m., one hour before the service, at the church.
Esther Viola (Tollefson) Teslow was born March 6, 1916 at home in rural Calmar, Iowa, the daughter of Herbert and Alma ( Halvorson) Tollefson. She was baptized March 19, 1916 at Springfield Lutheran Church and confirmed June 7, 1931 at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church. Viola attended rural country school and then graduated from Decorah High School with the Class of 1936, earning a Normal Teaching certificate by taking extra classes. She then did substitute teaching for a little while.
Viola was united in marriage to Francis Norman “Frank” Teslow on February 11, 1939 at the Springfield Lutheran Church parsonage. To this union, six children were born: Janet, Patricia, Susan, Gary, Debra and Dianne.
Frank and Viola farmed for many years and she was an active farm wife and homemaker, raising her family. She later worked for 18 years at Decorah Community Schools in food service at the high school. She was a member of Washington Prairie Lutheran Church where she was very active in circle. The church was very important to her.
Viola loved spending time with her whole family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she really enjoyed their visits; she also loved to cook for her family and all of their gatherings. She was a very good lefse maker, loved to play cards, reading, embroidery, making quilts, gardening, and enjoyed dancing with Frank.
Viola became a resident of Wellington Place Assisted Living in September 2011.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Frank on January 30, 2006; one daughter, Janet Funston on October 2, 2007; one brother, Walter Tollefson; four sisters, Lillian Johnson, Helen Tollefson, Pearl Tollefson and Edna Grace Austad; two sons-in-law, Fred Gates and Marvin Manness; two grandchildren, Sherri and Kevin Funston; and a great-grandson, Cody Nikkel.
Viola is survived by one son, Gary (Sue) Teslow of Decorah; four daughters, Patricia Manness of Barstow, CA, Susan (George) Vondruska of Watersmeet, MI, Debra (Stan) Moellers of Decorah and Dianne (Vince) Story of Billings, MT; one son-in-law, Stan Funston of Cedar Rapids, IA; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Theresa Teslow of Frankville, IA.

Alvin Baker, 79, of Jamestown, formerly of the Edmunds and Pingree ND area, passed away Tuesday morning, Nov 2, 2021 at Sanford Health in Fargo.
He was born September 25th, 1942 in Kensal, ND to Paul and Emma (Overby) Baker of rural Edmunds. At age 12, he yielded his life to God and was faithful until death. He attended Arrowwood country school until he graduated from the 8th grade. He then helped with the farming.
On May 27, 1967, he married Glenda Huisman of Atwater, MN. They had two children, Lyle and Lisa. In 1971, Alvin took over the farm from his dad. Over the years, Alvin and Glenda enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the United States and Canada. Alvin enjoyed farming until he retired in 1989. Alvin and Glenda went to Texas for the winter for several years. They lived on the family farm until 2018 and then they moved to Jamestown.
Alvin is survived by his wife Glenda, son Lyle of rural Buchanan, ND, daughter Lisa (Marc) Guenther of New Salem, ND. Grandchildren Megan Guenther of Grand Forks, ND and Aaron Guenther of New Salem, ND, brother Gene (Ruthie) Baker of Alexandria, MN, brother-in-law Jim (Betty) Huisman, Litchfield, MN, 5 nieces and nephews, many cousins and friends.
