Generations:      Standard    |    Compact    |    Vertical    |    Text    |    Register    |    Tables    |    PDF

Generation: 1

  1. 1.  Anne Marie Olsdatter was born on 2 Nov 1854 in Aarlien, Næs, Hedmark, Norway; died on 24 Jan 1899 in Richfield, Sevier County, Utah; was buried on 27 Jan 1899 in Richfield City Cemetery, Richfield, Sevier County, Utah.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Baptism: 14 Jan 1855, Næs, Hedmark, Norway
    • Confirmation: 3 Oct 1869, Næs, Hedmark, Norway

    Notes:

Shown in the 1865 Norwegian census as “his daughter.”

There is no mention of her as having come to the U.S. with the rest of her family in the late 1860s. She apparently emigrated to Utah with her husband and family in the late 1880s.

Anne Marie and Martin apparently converted to the LDS faith in Norway on 22 Mar 1882, their baptism dates. Up until that date, Anne Marie and Martin had had their children (Johanne, Ole, and Agnette) christened in the Norwegian church. After that date, they did not. (Berthe and Anne Mathilde were born in Norway but, apparently, were not christened in the Norwegian church.) Anne Marie and Martin waited until they got to Utah to baptize their oldest two children into the LDS faith which they did soon after arriving. However, for some reason, Agnette was not baptized into the LDS until 1963, over 4 years after her death. Berthe and the ensuing children were baptized in the LDS faith on schedule after their 8th, but before their 9th, birthdays, as is the custom. Olga, who never made it to her 3rd birthday, was apparently never baptized.

    Birth:
Many sources erroneously show her date of birth as November 20th.

    Confirmation:
as Marie Olsdatter Gaalaas born on Lieneiet

    Buried:
    Grave location A.09.10.02

    Notes:

She was already Norma Chiodo in September of 1920, at which time she was a senior in high school.

She was an eyewitness to her father killing her mother and aunt. She was “too ill to testify” but was able to give a deposition.

By January of 1922, as a “pretty 18 year-old” and “a little slip of a girl” expecting a baby in March of 1922, she testified against her father “even if it sends my father to the gallows!”

She may have had a daughter Norma, born in about 1924. An article in the San Pedro News-Pilot in August of 1923 referred to Mrs Norma Chiodo having a little daughter named Jean.

An article mentioning the marriage license for “Mrs. Norma Chiodo of San Pedro” and Wright said that she had been a resident of San Pedro for a number of years and was prominent in San Pedro social circles. She was a former student at San Pedro High School where she was president of the Girls’ League in 1921.

In the 1940 census, she and Jean live in Pasadena at 1987 Paloma Street, a home Norma owns that is worth $3500. This is the same place, but not the same house, that they lived in 1935. The California Voter Registration has her still living at 1987 Paloma, as Mrs. Norma I Wright, in 1948.

She may be the Mrs. Norma Wright in an L A Times article in 1952 on vocational nursing trainees.

Norma married Joseph P CHIODO on 10 Sep 1920 in Los Angeles County, California, and was divorced about 1923. Joseph was born in 1891 in Nebraska; died in 1977 in California. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

The information presented here for Gwendoyn is from the Maurine Anderson Family Tree on Ancestry.com.

Gwen and Phillip had four children.

Her obit from the Provo newspaper, included in her Find A Grave entry, created by Connor:

Gwen Johnson Christensen passed away in Provo, Utah on April 16, 2007. She was born September 1, 1919, in Sigurd, Utah, to Joseph B. and Milda Dastrup Johnson. On June 19, 1941, she married Phillip V. Christensen in New Orleans, Louisiana. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.

Gwen was born with a unquenchable thirst for knowledge and an ardent love of reading. She enjoyed school and took particular pleasure in drama. In grade school she recruited her friends to portray Tarzan and Jane from the treetops. In junior high school she wrote and produced her first play and continued to act, write and produce throughout high school. She worked her way through college and graduated from Brigham Young University with high honors. Completing a double major in English, Speech and Dramatic Arts, she also obtained a teaching degree. She met her husband-to-be, Phil, while they were both acting in plays.

As a young bride during World War II, Gwen worked in New Orleans at the Port of Embarkation. Since she had acted in plays all her life, she possessed a remarkable memory and was once investigated by a major in the Army as a spy because she had unintentionally memorized long numbers and secret codes. Imagine the major's surprise when he learned that the FBI already had a full dossier on Gwen since she was married to an FBI agent.

In her spare time, Gwen continued acting, presenting a three-act play in the French Quarter. After living and working in Indiana and New Jersey, Phil and Gwen were transferred to Los Angeles, California. They then moved to Utah so Phil could take over the family law business. By this time Gwen had begun a new role in life, that of a mother to a son and later three daughters.

People were Gwen's passion, and she loved serving others whether it was offering a needed shoulder to cry on or sponsoring families from a foreign country. As a member of The LDS Church, Gwen was Relief Society President many times, her first experience when she was in her early twenties. She completed a stake mission and two missions with her husband: one in Greece, where they served as international missionaries and one to Missouri, where they were Directors of the Independence Visitors' Center. She served as a temple worker in the Provo LDS Temple for many years and was active in the PTA all during her children's school years.

She was a wonderful, loving mother to one son, Bryce Christensen (wife Elizabeth), and three daughters; Mrs. Scott (Betty) Briggs, Mrs. William (Ann) Bunker and Mrs. Michael (Mary) Patterson. She was also loved and will be sorely missed by fifteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Dennis (Beth) Bradshaw and was preceded in death by a brother, Hugh Johnson.

Newton Andy Holaday, age 84, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 16th at his home in Alamo, Nevada, a few hundred feet from where he was born.

Together they raised three children, attended and traveled to countless ball games and school activities. Newt and Ina spent many weekends taking their family and many friends into the wide open spaces of Nevada, hunting, fishing, camping, and chasing cows.

Newt was well known for his Dutch Oven cooking, which he cooked for family and friends and even the entire town once in a while, be it the annual High School Rodeo or the Alamo 4th of July celebration. Notes:

Kimball, a friend to everyone he met, passed away at 5:30 a.m., September 25. He was a grizzly old bachelor who spent most of his life engaged in physical activities: work and play. He was a long-distance runner, using both workplace and his beloved hills as his racecourse. But his runs were always solitary.

His working life was also one of physical vigor, working as a custodian for the University of Utah for almost 20 years, working on machining equipment at both Easton Aluminum and Black Diamond. He also did temporary custodial work for the Salt Palace and South Towne Exposition Center. He also kept his mind active reading scholarly books of many technical and historical subjects.

He was the first of the three children born by his mother, Beth J. Bradshaw, deceased 2011. He is survived by his siblings, Daniel Reed Bradshaw, and Claudia B. Herrera, and by his father, Dennis B. Bradshaw, (Of course, there are also nieces and nephews who survive him.)

At his request, there will be no funeral service and no viewing. Kimball will be cremated and his ashes will be scattered on the hills that he loved to run.
