    Notes:

She is the Anna Carlsson who was in Winnipeg on 27 June 1907 when she wrote a letter to Margareta Danielsson. She signed it “your brother’s daughter.” She implies that it had been “over three years” since she left Sweden. In that 1907 letter she says that she is working for a family on a farm for 15 dollars a month. She says it had been over two years since she had seen “Ida and Olle” (her sister and brother-in-law) and that the ticket to go see them cost 20 dollars round-trip.

Some, perhaps none, of the following relate to this Anna:

In a 1913 record of crossings from Canada to the U.S., a 25 year-old Anna Carlson, a domestic born in Sweden, of 252 Highway or Kingway in Winnipeg, has her final destination in Minneapolis. Her nearest relative in Sweden is her father, Carl John Swanson of Asarum, Sweden.

There is a 29 year-old Anna Carlson who is a domestic living in Winnipeg in the 1916 census. However, that Anna is shown to have come to Canada in 1911.

In the 1921 Canadian census, there is an Anna A Carlson, a domestic in Winnipeg who works at and/or lives at the Tuxedo Hospital. She is shown to have come to Canada in 1904.

In a 1928 record of Aliens pre-examined in Canada, for Winnipeg, January 24, 1926 or 1928, there is an Anna Amalie Carlson, age 41, a domestic living in Winnipeg and born in Jamtland, going to visit her niece, Onedra Gr?ty in Fontana, California. That Anna is single and lives at 234 Oxford in Winnipeg. The name and address of her nearest relative or friend in the country from which she came is her sister, Mrs. Andrew Gr?ty of Oak Bluff, Manitoba. This Anna was in Seattle from 1912 to 1915. She is 5 feet tall, of fair complexion, with brown hair and blue eyes.

A Miss Anna Carlson, “retired”, lived on McMillan Avenue in Winnipeg in the 1962 Canada Voters List.

An Anna Amelia Carlson is buried in Winnipeg.

  1. 20.  Lars O ENGLUND Descendancy chart to this point (12.Christine3, 5.Ida2, 1.Lisa1) was born on 16 Apr 1929 in Washington; died on 7 Dec 2016 in Washington.

    Notes:

If you asked Lars Olaf Englund where he was born, he was proud to tell you that he was born at "Swedish Hospital in Seattle" on April 16th of 1929. It was never just - "I was born in Seattle". Lars was that proud of his 100% Swedish heritage. His parents - Johann Edward and Christine Elizabeth Englund (Rosen) - gave him his Swedish genes and they, along with his grandparents and so many uncles and aunts, instilled in him this pride in his Swedish heritage. Grandparents named Olof and Ida, and uncles and aunts with names like Art, Martha, Hans, Nels, Anselm, Paul, Hilder and Walt were so present in his life. There with bright eyes and lively smiles playing accordion, banjo and spoons - singing and dancing to the old Swedish songs. Lars was the first of many grandchildren of Olof and Ida Rosen. With his happy and sociable nature and his handsome Scandinavian looks he rapidly became adored by all those aunts and uncles, most of whom were still children, themselves, when Lars came on the scene.

During his early years, Lars's family lived on Magnolia Bluff in Seattle, where his father was a successful home builder. However, because of the great depression that took place during that period the construction business was severely impacted causing the family to move in 1933 from Seattle to Electric City, near Coulee Dam. He later spent 4 memorable years of his youth in the Vantage area from 1937 to 1941 where his parents built and operated the Hill Top Cafe and service station just above the Columbia River along the old State highway 10 (which is now where concert goers take exit 143 off of I-90 to reach the Gorge Amphitheater). His family returned west of the mountains 75 years ago, settling in Federal Way (on what is still known to some locals as "Englund Hill") in 1941, not too long before the attack on Pearl Harbor. The rest of Lars's childhood took place in the Puget Sound region where he graduated from Federal Way High School in 1947. He was very active and quite popular in high school, playing basketball, baseball and was a member of the High School band playing the Baritone. He attended the University of Washington and was extremely proud to have rowed in the UW crew during his time there.

Lars left us this year on that day of infamy, December 7th. He battled pancreatic cancer for well over a year, enduring chemo and the cancer's spread, living in better health than expected and beyond the doctors' initial predictions. At the moment of his peaceful passing, he was surrounded by three of his five sons (Ron, Mike, Eric), his daughter-in-law Debby, and three of his 13 grandchildren, Michelle, Jessica and young Lars. In the semi-conscious hours leading to his passing, Lars would squeeze a hand and try to talk, opening his eyes, at times aware of those around him - especially when granddaughter Katie brought sweet-voiced, two-year old great-granddaughter Rosen to visit. In those hours, he seemed to perk up a bit when grandsons Sawyer and Keaton sat on his bed, saying goodbye. He seemed able to hear his sons Brian and Kurt saying goodbye on the phone. Then, just moments before he was gone, grandpa Lars truly seemed to rally just a bit, for a brief moment, as grandson Lars touched his hand saying hello.

Lars is survived by his five sons, Brian - Maureen (San Antonio), Ron - Debby (Edgewood), Mike - Elena (Puyallup), Eric - Kendra (Auburn) and Kurt (Palm Springs). He has 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Lars is also survived by his two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward and Myrna Englund (Auburn) and Eric and Carole Englund (Everett). He also has numerous loving cousins, nieces and nephews across the Pacific Northwest. Lars was preceded in death by his parents, Johann Edward and Christine Elizabeth Englund (Rosen), as well as first wife Joanna Englund (mother to his five sons) and second wife Pollyanna Englund.

Lars married Joanna JOHNSON on 16 Mar 1951 in King County, Washington, and was divorced on 18 Jun 1973 in Yakima County, Washington. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Lars married Pollyanna HAMILTON in Jul 1973 in Chelan County, Washington. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
