She is probably the Britha born in Lærdal on January 16, 1860, and baptized April 5th. That Britha was the daughter of Sjur Magnussen and Ingeleif Reiarsdatter of Asperheim. That family lived on the Gjelseng farm in Årdal in the 1865 census.

Her obit in the La Crosse Tribune, Tuesday, July 13, 1937:

“Liberty Pole. Funeral services for Mrs. Ole Mundahl (sic), one of the pioneer residents of this community, were held Monday at the home and Kickapoo Lutheran church, the rev. H. T. Haagenson officiating. Burial was in the adjacent cemetery. Mrs. Mundahl passed away Friday at her home after a lingering illness. She is survived by four children and several grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death some years ago.”

We know that at least five of her children survived her. According to Judi, the exact number is six: Clara, Ida, Soren, Martin, Tilman, and Mabel.

His obit said that he died of a heart attack at his home in Westby. His obit in the La Crosse Tribune did not mention his son, Myron Erickson.

Registered for the draft on June 5, 1917, in the town of Franklin, Vernon County. He was single and a self-employed farmer living at Route 1, West Prairie. He was of medium height and build with blue eyes and brown hair.

He is, however, living with his parents in the 1920 census. He is also shown to be 27 years old in that census (January 13th).

His birth year is shown as 1893 on his gravestone.

In the 1930 census, he is single and lodging with the Knut Emerson family on South Main Street in the city of Viroqua, just around the corner from the Martin Larson household on East Maple Street. Martin’s occupation is salesman in the gasoline and oil business.

In the 1940 census (indexed as Mandahl), Martin, Mabel, and Tilman lived on a farm on McGraw Valley Road in Franklin Twp, Vernon County. The two men had 4th grade educations, Mabel was educated through the 5th grade. The farm they lived on was a rented farm and it was the same house in which they all had lived in 1935.

Per Judi, Mabel, Martin, and Tilman never married and lived together on the original farm and then moved into Viroqua.

In December of 1921, he was charged with manslaughter in being party to a fatal collision in which a “death car” struck and killed a man named Hoffman and his seven-year old son. The driver of the car was his brother-in-law, Thor Sebion. The charge against Martin was later dismissed.

The La Crosse newspaper had an article in December of 1922 about Tillman Nundahl and Tom Tollefson crashing Tillman’s car. Tillman was fined $52.50 for driving while intoxicated.

His obit said that he had an apparent heart attack while in his car near Soldiers Grove. He was a farmer and had retired 14 years previously.

Beatrice A. Hillbo, age 93 of Viroqua, passed away on Oct. 9, 2010, at her home.??She was born in Soldiers Grove, on Dec. 22, 1916, the only child of Soren and Millie (Erickson) Nundahl. She was confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Westby and on June 22, 1940, she married Arvid R. Hillbo at Our Savior’s. He preceded her in death on Oct. 24, 1946.??Bea was a graduate of Westby High School, Vernon County Teacher’s College, UW-La Crosse and attended Winona State University. For more than 35 years she taught in rural schools in Vernon and Crawford counties, retiring from Viroqua Area Schools in 1982.??She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua, where she sang in the choir, served on the council and was an active church member. Other memberships include Vernon County Retired Educators, Vernon Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Vernon County Historical Society. She also volunteered her time and talents in many ways.??Bea is survived by her two children, Judi (Dave) Konop of La Crosse and Trygve (Barbara) of Madison; four grandchildren, Alec Hillbo of Phoenix, Ariz., Griffin Hillbo of Minneapolis, Ryan Konop (Gina Prange) of Victory, and Gina Konop (fiancé Shawn Miller) of La Crosse. Not mentioned in the obit of his half-sister Beatrice. Referred to as brother “Mike” in the obit of his half-sister Mary Hoff. He is identified as a son of Soren Ole Nundahl in an Ancestry.com family tree.

Myron "Mike" L. Erickson, 2105 Johnson St., passed away June 17, 1993. He was born Oct. 4, 1920, in Coon Valley and was baptized and confirmed in Coon Valley Lutheran Church. On Oct. 6, 1956, he was united in marriage to Gwendolyn Strangstalien of Westby.

He retired from Gateway Transportation Co. of La Crosse in 1983, where he had been employed since 1957 and previously was with the Ruan and Hillside Transportation companies, and with Dairyland Transportation Co. of Coon Valley. From 1937 to 1939, he was with the Civilian Conservation Corps and was a member of the Brotherhood of XCCCers. He was a Navy veteran of World War II having been accepted for the token crew of the USS Wisconsin in 1942. Upon his discharge in 1946, he became a member of American Legion Post 116 of Coon Valley. He was a 25-year member of Moose Lodge 120 of La Crosse. From 1988 to 1992 he was employed with the Franciscan Health System in their Community Outreach programs.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three sons, Dale of Fairfax, Va., Paul (Terri) of Onalaska and Peter of La Crosse; two sisters, Alice Stromstad (Emil) Brye of Coon Valley and Mary Stromstad (Howard) Hoff of La Crosse; and by a brother, Harold Stromstad of Kennewich, Wash. Two brothers and his parents, Joseph and Lena Erickson Stromstad, preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be conducted by Dr. Dennis Johnson in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2135 Weston St., La Crosse, at 11 a.m. Monday, June 21. Visitation for friends and relatives will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 20 in Seland Funeral Home, Coon Valley, and from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church Monday. Burial will be in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Post 116. Memorials may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church or to a church of choice.
