    Notes:

Or Anne Beret. She is Anne Bergithe in the Sakshaug church book birth record.

Living with her parents and siblings in the 1875 Norwegian census.

According to Nina and NÆSS, Anne Bergithe travelled to Fergus Falls in 1884 or 1885 and married Andrew Grande. They lived in Virginia, Minnesota, and she had six children.

She is not listed in the Sakshaug emigration records. The 1900 census lists her year of immigration as 1885. The 1910 census lists her year of immigration as 1886. The 1920 census lists her year of immigration as “Un.” the 1930 census lists her year of immigration as 1884.

In the 1905 Minnesota state census, Andrew and Annie (as Grandy) and family live in Missabe Mountain Twp in St. Louis County. Andrew is a carpenter.

In the 1900 census, Annie (b. Jul 1864) and Andrew (b. Jun 1858) lived in Duluth. Andrew is a carpenter and came to the U.S. in 1882. Annie came in 1885. Their children: Mamie J (b. in the 1910 census, the Grandes live in Virginia where Andrew is a building contractor. Annie B has had seven children, six still living.

In her April 24, 1920, passport application, she claims to have lived in the U.S. uninterruptedly for 35 years from 1885 to 1920, of which 15 years were in Duluth and 20 years in Virginia, Minnesota. She gives her name as Annie Grande and claims to be going abroad for no more than six months to visit relatives. She intends to leave the U.S. at the port of New York aboard a ship of the Norwegian-American line on June 20, 1920. She is described as 55 years old, 5 feet, 3 inches tall with blue eyes and gray hair. She lives at 105 N, Fifth Ave. W., Virginia, Minnesota.

The New York Passenger lists show that she returned to New York on September 7, 1920, aboard the SS Stavangerfjord which had sailed from Christiania on August 28th. She seems to have been accompanied by Christ and Sara Christofferson, of 512 2nd Street in Virginia. Christ’s passport number was 1 number higher than Annie’s (31048 vs. 31047).

In the 1930 census, Annie was a widow living in Virginia with her sons and daughter Mamie.

In the 1940 census, Annie and Mayme lived 107 5th Avenue North in Virginia in a house they owned worth $10,000 (!), the same house in which both had lived five years earlier.
