He seems to be Ola Nilsen Haugen, I25645, in Jim’s VS. For that entry, there is no further information on Ole’s wife or children. However, the VS entry shows Ole’s parents to be Nils Olsen Helle and Berit Håvardsdatter Helle.

He’s simply Ole Nelson in the French Family Tree.

The bygdebok (p. 787) calls him Ola Nilsson Tørstadeiga. He was called Ole Nilsen Ellingbø in the church book entry for Nel’s birth. He was called Ole Nielson Kattevold in the entry for Anders’s birth and for Helge’s birth and for the family’s emigration record.

Shown as Ole Nielsson in the 1865 Norwegian census. He was a “husmand med jord og smed” on the Grunkø farm in Hoved subparish in Vang parish. He was 38, his wife Sigri Olsdatter was 31, and they had two sons: Niels, 7, and Ole, 3. Grunkø, aka Grunke or Grunketeigen, was a husmannplassen under Øvre Kattevøl.

In the 1910 census, Nels and his son Henry are living with his brother Ole and family on the Nelson farm. Nels’s brother Andrew and son Ole are not listed.

His death certificate, for which Ole J Nelson of Lakeville was the informant, describes him as a widower farmer. His father was Ole O Nelson. He died from influenza, complicated by “chronic Bright’s disease.”

According to Rose, it was this Ole Nelson (or possibly, his father) who encouraged Ove and family to come to the New Market area because you could see three church spires from there.

In the 1910 census (May 10th), he and his family live on a farm in New Market, Scott County, next door to the newly married Ole and Rose Ellingboe. He was 46 and had been married for 6 years to Selma, 37. It was the first marriage for both and Selma had had 2 children: Sofia, 4, and Oscar, 3. On the other side of them lived 50 year-old Nels Nelson, a widower, with his son Henry, 15.

In the 1930 census, he lives in New Market with his son Oscar. They are listed on the census form just after the Ole Ellingboe family. Ole is shown as a widower.

He registered for the draft as Henry Richard Nelson in Scott County on June 5, 1917. He was of slender build (whether tall, medium, or short is not mentioned) with blue eyes, light brown hair, and weak eyes. He was a farm laborer for Alex Stennerson in New Market.

In the 1920 census, he may be the Henry Nelson who is rooming with the Elwood Harper household in Minneapolis. That Henry was a bookkeeper with a wood company.

In the 1940 census, he lives with or next door to the Albert Ellingboes. Henry is a farm laborer.

Evey says that Hank was a “middle-aged bachelor” who “stayed in the little house on Albert’s place.” Rose said that Hank’s house was “on the 20.”

It was Hank Nelson who, with his old pickup truck, drove several of the Ellingboes, including Albert Batten, to Lake Pepin on an overnight fishing trip in the summer of 1941.

Henry was a single farmer according to his death certificate. He resided at Lakeville, Route 1. He died of an intestinal obstruction brought on by cancer. The informant for his death certificate was his cousin Oscar Nelson of 848 East Rose Ave., St. Paul.

NORTHFIELD--Funeral services for Olaf Bergstrom, who passed away Friday, November 13, following a short illness, were held Thursday, November 19, at the Solor Church in Webster. the Rev. R. S. Chellman of Minneapolis officiated at 2:00 p.m. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery. Pallbearers were Lars Holden, Fred Frederickson, Eddy Peterson, Carl Miller, Axel Frederickson and Carl Anderson. Olaf Bergstrom was born March 21, 1889 in the Webster community, son of Ole and Betsy Nelson Bergstrom. He attended the rural schools and engaged in farming in the Webster community. On October 27, 1915, he was married to Anna Iverson of Webster. Following their marriage they lived for four years in Little Chicago and then made their home in Elko. For many years Mr. Bergstrom was known in the neighborhood for his skill with sick animals. While he was on a mission of Mercy to a New Market farm he was stricken with a heart attack from which he failed to recover. Mr. Bergstrom is survived by his widow, three daughters, Mrs. Hubert Ripple (Mabel) of Northfield; Selma Bergstrom of Omaha, Nebr., and Mrs. Glen Stoefer (Kathleen) of Faribault; four sons, Alvin, of Yakima, Wash., Donald of Minneapolis, Edwin who is in the armed forces in Korea, and Leonard at home. Joseph S. Bergstrom, 87, Elko, died on Wednesday, May 24,1989, of cancer at Sanford Nursing Home in Farmington. Bergstrom was born on Dec. 2, 1901, to Ole and Betsy Bergstrom in New Market Township. On Oct.10,1923, he married Florence Page. He worked for the Elko elevator, was on the board of directors of Sanford Hospital in Farmington and was a former mayor of Elko; he was also a member of Christiania Lutheran Church in Lakeville. Preceding him in death were his parents, two sisters and four brothers. Survivors include his wife; two daughters Doris (Mrs. Ray) Cousins of Worihington and Marcella (Mrs. Gordon) Tripp of Saugus, Calif.; three sons Ronald of Elko, Loren of Chaska, and Duane of New Market; one sister Sophie Aronson of Lakeville; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Visitation was held on Friday, May 26, at the White Funeral Home in Lakeville. Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 27, at Christiania Lutheran Church with the Rev. Charles vonFischer officiating. Interment was in West Christiania Cemetery. Pallbearers were Debbie, Todd, Scott, Jeff and Mark Bergstrom, and Lori Cousins.

Howie was born in New Market, MN on November 18, 1936. He married the love of his life, Carol Thompson on March 3, 1956 and they were married 60+ years until her death on July 23, 2016.

He is survived by his children, Michael (Susan) Hanson of Brooklyn Park, MN, Pamela (David) Edwards of Augusta, WI, Karen (Joseph) Roberts of Osecola, WI, John Hanson of Cottage Grove, MN, Lisa (Thomas) Schaeffer of Apple Valley, MN, James Hanson of Apple Valley, MN and Ben Hanson of Eagan, MN; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter; siblings, John (Shirley) Hanson, Caroline (Ray) Linder, Vivian Christy, Juleen (Marlyn) Jeske, Vernon Hanson, Henry Hanson, Deanna Clevenger; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Howie worked as a machinist at American Hoist & Derrick and Waterous Company for a combined 30 years. He was always willing to help his family and friends wherever he could. He loved his family very much and he also loved and lived his life according to the word of his God Jehovah.

ORLEN HARRY DAVIDSON, age 98, of Janesville died on Friday, June 10, 2022 at Whispering Creek in Janesville.

Born on October 17, 1923 near Elko in Scott County, Minnesota, he was the son of Adolph and Inga (Bergstrom) Davidson. Dave, as he was known since high school, served in the Navy until WWII ended. He married Lorraine Sammon on May 29, 1947 and began his business career in Faribault as manager of Wilson Co. of Chicago. When the plant closed, they moved to Owatonna where Dave began working for HyLine Poultry Farms, part of the large Pioneer Corn Corp. of Des Moines, IA. He quickly rose to management while he and Lorraine remodeled a farm, raised five children, and built an egg production business of their own. In 1966, Dave left HyLine and doubled production in his own business. He and Lorraine sold the business in 1976 and moved to Arizona for seven years before retiring in Janesville.

Dave had excellent organizational and problem-solving skills that he taught his children, contributing to their successes. Lorraine always said he could fix anything!

He is survived by his daughters, Joyce (Mark) Powell of Elysian, Gwen Davidson (Douglas Lubotsky) of Portland, OR, and Joan Davidson of Hollywood, FL and son, Gary (Debra) Davidson of Silver City, NM. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Courtney (Terry) Strean, Alec Powell, Landis Davidson, Larisa (Jonathan) Wilson, Kai Davidson, Tai Davidson, and Indigo Davidson; and five great grandchildren, Allie and Arya Strean, Rohan, Khaimus, and Tiden Wilson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, Vincent John; one sister, Lillian Gladys Aronson; and one brother, Arthur Maynard Davidson.

Ron was born November 22, 1925, in Elko and was a longtime resident. He was Elko’s 1st city clerk from 1949 - 1967. Ron was a long time member of The Lions Club, enjoyed bowling, his dogs and spending time with family and friends. Ron was a humble and gentle man who loved a cup of coffee and simple pleasures.

Loren Eugene Bergstrom, age 89, of Chaska, died Thursday, August 24, 2017 at the Lutheran Home of Belle Plaine.

Loren’s family will receive friends on Thursday, August 31, 4 to 7 p.m. at the Bertas Funeral Home, 200 W. 3rd St., Chaska, with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. by The Reverend Allen Holthus of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Chaska. The inurnment will be at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Chaska.

Loren was born on February 2, 1928 in Elko, MN to Joseph and Florence (Page) Bergstorm, one of five children. He was baptized in Elko and confirmed in Webster. He was a 1946 graduate of Lakeville High School, Lakeville, and then honorably served his country in the United States Army in Japan. On October 27, 1951 he married Vila Goetsch at the Lutheran Church in Webster. Loren was manager of the Carver Grain Elevator in Carver, for 20 years, and also the Cologne, grain elevator for 20 years, retiring in 1990. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was quite the handyman on lawn mowers and bicycles.

Loren was preceded in death by his wife, Vila, parents, brother, Duane Bergstrom and sister Doris Cousins.

Betty M. Langord, age 92 of Lakeville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 3, 2019.

Betty was born on January 6, 1927 to Richard and Sophie (nee: Bergstrom) Aronson. She graduated from Lakeville High School in 1944. Betty attended Minneapolis School of Business and early in her career was assistant to the Secretary of North American Life and Casualty Insurance.  She retired from Marquette Bank in Lakeville after 25 years.

Betty loved playing bridge and was in two bridge clubs for 50+ years.  She also loved golf and dancing.  Betty came from a family of singers and loved many kinds of music, especially 30s-40s and swing. She had a heart for service and was a Befriender and brought communion to shut-ins who were a part of her church community, St. John’s Lutheran Church.  Betty will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Mardell Blaufarb, Mary Lou Ruh and Glenn Aronson.
