Notes |
- From Jan: “John Quaid's father was actually William Quain not William Quaid. In Ireland the Quaid and Quain names are interchangable. But they are basically the same name-the original name was Quain. Just about every generation there was a Fitzgerald who married a Quain, so the families are very close and mixed up -- but all are descendants from the "White Knight".”
Also from Jan: “George says the family came from the Manister parish. He lives in Patrickswell. A few years ago I spoke to another Quaid cousin, Catherine O'Riodan, who said she owned the Crean property.”
In the 1895 Minnesota state census, the girls had left home but the three boys were still on the farm in Milo Twp, Mille Lacs County, Minnesota. John's occupation was painter. The family had been in Minnesota for 12 years, 6 months, and in Foreston for 4 years and 10 months.
In his granddaughter Mary Catherine’s birth record he is referred to as Gulielumus Quaid.
Wilhelm, 60 (b. January 1840), his wife Cate, 57 (b. January 1843), and their son Wilhelm, 22 (b. May 1878) were living in Foreston in the 1900 census. Wilhelm Sr. was a farmer. All three had been born in Ireland. Husband and wife had been married for 33 years. Cate had had 7 children, 5 still living. Wilhelm Sr. is shown as having come to the U.S. in 1885 but no similar date is shown for his wife or their son.
In the 1905 Minnesota state census, William and Kate were in Foreston along with their three sons and their families. The Quaids had been in the U.S. for 21 years and 6 months and had been in Foreston for 5 years and 6 months.
Living in Foreston village, Mille Lacs County, Minnesota, in the 1910 census. Came to the U. S. in 1889.
Still living in Foreston village in the 1920 census but he is now a widower.
Died of chronic myocarditis complicated by senility. Was living with his daughter Margaret and family at 710 Jackson Street in Minneapolis at the time of his death.
