  Notes	Charles Luff (#8168) is the younger brother of William (#8173) if Charles was called Carl (age 9) in the 1880 census of the family of Jacob and Eva Luff in New Richland, Minnesota. Both of those boys were born in Wisconsin. He is called Charles in the 1875 Minnesota state census. In the 1900 census, Charles and Lizzie Luff lived in Ortonville, Big Stone County, Minnesota. Charles worked at an elevator. They had been married for five years but had had no children. Lizzie was born in Norway in January of 1873 and Charles was born in Wisconsin in June 1872. Both of his parents were born in Germany. In the 1905 state census, Charles and Lizzie are still together in Ortonville. He is a stock buyer. In the 1920 census, Charles and Eva and family live in Church’s Ferry in Ramsey County, North Dakota. Charles is the manager of a grain elevator. Included in the household are two sons, apparently Eva’s from an earlier marriage, and one daughter, Fern. In the 1940 census, Charles and Eva and their daughter and grandson live in St. Helens in Columbia County, Oregon. Charles has an eighth-grade education and is unemployed and retired. His usual occupation was repair man at a saw mill. He earned $515 in 1939. He and Eva own their house, worth $2000. It is not the house that any of them lived in in 1935.
