      In the 1955 city directory for Corvallis, Oregon, he and Helen lived at 619 N 12th. He was a captain in the police department, she was an assistant to Verne S Gearey.

      He was chief of police at Corvallis at the time of his daughter Carolís death in 1966.

      The inscription on the gravestone he shares with Helen in the Crystal Lake Cemetery is confusing and reads:

      It happens that, according to the SSDI, a James Albert Goodman with this birth date died in Tennessee on 30 Mar 2001. His SS# had been issued in Tennessee. His last residence was New Johnsonville, Humphreys County, Tennessee. FInd A Grave has an entry for him and Bertelyn Cagle Goodman for Flatwoods Methodist Cemetery in Camden, Tennessee. He had married Bertelyn Cagle on March 23, 1995, according to Find A Grave.

      His obit in the April 1, 2001, edition of The Commercial Appeal, a Memphis newspaper:

      NEW JOHNSONVILLE - James A. 'Buck' Goodman, 78, retired chief of police for City of Corvallis, Ore., died of heart failure Friday at Camden General Hospital. Services will be at 3:30 p.m. today at Stockdale-Malin Funeral Home in Camden with burial in Ebenezer Cemetery in Humphreys County. He was a Marine Corps veteran and a member of Camden Church of Christ. Mr. Goodman, the husband of Ruth Greer Goodman, also leaves a daughter, Beverly Bergan of Ontario, Ore.; a sister, Ruby Neil of Sharon; a brother, Larry Goodman of Huntsville, Ala., and seven grandchildren.
