 | Arthur Hendrickson, about 2 years old Probably taken in about 1910 when Arthur was 2. The location is the front of the Hendrickson house in Minneapolis. The original is postcard addressed to Cora Anderson, Viroqua, but apparently sent in a separate envelope. The message, in pencil: "Tell Auntie Susan I send one to Clara for I can not share more than one at each house." Another sentence that is hard to read suggests that either this was to be sent on to "Louises" or else that she had sent one to Louise. |
 | Arthur Hendrickson, about age 5 Probably from about 1913. The original is a postcard with the message "To Cora from the fellow on the other side." The message was written by Martha. |
 | Arthur Hendrickson and his half-brother Georgie Hendrickson Probably from about 1909 or 1910 when Arthur would have been 1 or 2 and Georgie 11 or 12. The original is a postcard addressed to Cora Anderson in Viroqua Wis. The message is "Tell mama thank you for the two chickens. I aught to write to you but please excuse me I have to much to do Auntie." |
 | Martha's sitting room, about 1913, in Minneapolis Charles Hendrickson is seated with Arthur in his lap and Martha behind him. The year is about 1913, a year before Cora came to live with the Hendicksons for three months. The original is a postcard from Martha to Cora but apparently mailed in an envelope because there is no stamp or address on the card. The note on the card, in pencil with somewhat childish writing, is addressed to Cora Anderson and says, "Dear Cora suppose you think I have forgotten you but I think of you often dear Cora I know I ought to write but I am so busy it seems I never get done hope you will come to see me next summer stay all summer Dear Cora write to me your Auntie Martha." |
 | Arthur Hendrickson, baby Spring, 1908. This is probably Arthur's baptism.
The original is a semi-glossy print, approximately 2.5 x 4, mounted on a sturdy tan board. On the back, in pencil, is "Cora from Arthur" and, added by Cora later in ink, "Hendrickson." |
 | Family gathering Probably taken about 1917, give or take a year. That seems to be Louise 2nd from the left. Martha's son Arthur is next to Louise and Martha's daughter Myrtle is in the middle in the front. That may be Aida in the front next to Myrtle. The original is a small print on lightweight paper. Cora had two copies: one with no writing on it and one that says "Sister Anna" on the back. We don't know who all of the others are. |
 | Arthur and Gertrude Hendrickson wedding The sepia-toned rectangular original is mounted in a greyish-brown folder from Rosaas Studio - Duluth. On the back, in Cora's handwriting: "My Cousins Art Hendrickson groom Also my Cousins Marion & Gertie Anderson's and their friend."
Arthur is about 19, Gertie about 17. If the woman on the right is Gertie's sister Marion, she would be about 22 or 23. The woman on the right looks older than that and may be Gertie's mother. In that case, the fellow on the left may be Ole Jr.
How did they meet? Because Gertie's mother was a Nordrum (from LaCrosse), and there were also Nordrums in the Viroqua area, it is possible that matchmaker Martha was aware of Gertie, even apart from the connection through Cora and Cora's father. |
