- Registered for the draft on June 5th in Rosetown, Ramsey County, as Joseph Stevens Mayer. He gave his address as the corner of Summit and Oak Street in Merr. Park, St. Paul. He was single and was employed as a clerk at the Woodward {illegible} Furniture Company at 631 Marquette Avenue in Minneapolis. He did not claim exemption from the draft but did list his mother as solely dependent upon him for her support. He was described as of medium height and build with grey eyes and brown hair.
Joseph was a Private in the U.S. Army in World War I. His service was from 28 Jun 1918 to 14 Apr 1919.
In the 1930 census, he and his wife Louise M., age 36, lived at 4206 Pillsbury Avenue in Minneapolis. They had been married for 12 years. Joseph was an assembler in a machine shop. Living with Joseph and Louise was Louise’s widowed sister, Theresa Clemens.
He and Louise still lived at 4206 Pillsbury at the time of Louise’s death in 1944.
