Notes |
- Janice C. Meyer, 74, passed away Monday, June 20, 2016, at her home in Uniontown after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. She will be remembered by those who loved her for her quiet and patient disposition and unending love for family and friends.
Jan was born Aug. 25, 1941, in Seattle, Wash., to Claude and Margaret (Sprowl) Johns. She moved to Okanogan, Wash., at age 3 and graduated from Okanogan High School in 1959.
Jan met the love of her life, Edward Florent Meyer, in art class while attending Eastern Washington University. Ed and Jan married Nov. 10, 1962, and shared 53 years together. They stayed busy raising four children and establishing a family farm outside of Uniontown.
Jan enjoyed being a farmer's wife and raising her children on a spacious, quiet farm. Rather than love the indoors, she embraced working outdoors. Many of her kids' childhood memories involve her mowing and watering the lawn, rototilling and planting expansive gardens, and landscaping her home beautifully. Jan had a "green thumb" that she inherited from parents who owned a floral business. The most beautiful petunias adorned the farm annually and became her trademark.
Her gentle spirit made her a favorite with every farm animal. The family German shepherd followed behind the riding lawnmower lap after lap around the yard. Cats, horses, birds, sheep - they followed her everywhere and she managed to feed and love them all.
Most of all, Jan always had time for her children. She loved being a stay-at-home mom and listened to her kids' problems and school stories. She was completely invested in their lives. Her last days surrounded by a steady flow of children, grandchildren and close friends attested to the love everyone felt for her.
Jan's hobbies varied from year to year but included: crocheting, cross-stitching, sewing, genealogy, floral arranging, gardening and reading. She spent many years of active service in Catholic Daughters, Altar Society and Hospice.
Jan is survived by her husband, Ed; children Brad (Roylyn), Lei (Dave) Strottmann, Michelle (Rob) Stanton and Curt. Her nine special grandchildren: Colton (Ashley) and Payton Meyer, Michelle (Jeremy) Lythgoe, Taylor Mack, Jared and Kyle Strottmann, Nicole and Danny Stanton, and Alexis Meyer; and great-grandchildren Jacob Stanton and Ainsley Lythgoe were her joy. She also leaves a brother, Barry (Tina) Johns, and sister, Sheila Kennedy.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Michaela Nuxoll, Jan's caregiver of three years, for her excellent care. She became a part of our extended family and found a place in our hearts. Also, the continued love and support of Kathie Lyons, Jack Espy, Barb Meyer, Juanita Kinzer and Joyce Mayer; whether by personal visits, baked goods, flowers or phone calls, Jan cherished your continued friendship and devotion.
