  Notes	Chester Garret, 84, of Tinton Falls, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014. Born in Chicago, IL on Aug. 30, 1929, he attended Ambrose E. Burnside elementary school and Tilden Technical High School. Chester was 11 years old in 1940 when his father died. From age 11 through high school, Chester and his sister, Jean, spent their summers in Manitwoc, WI working on farms owned by relatives. In 1945, prior to graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and was a proud member of the 351st Infantry Regiment, 88th Division. The 88th Division were to become known as TRUST (Trieste United States Troops). This group, along with their British counterpart, became the first multi-national peacekeepers working under the the fledging United Nations in an effort to maintain peace between the Italians and the communist Yugoslavians who desired the port city of Trieste. Gaining his GED diploma, he attended Illilnois Institute of Technology and in 1952 graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and Metallurgy. He went on to work for the U.S. Government at Sandia Base, NM, Phillips Petroleum, OK, Revere Products, and Anaconda Aluminum, IL. In the late 1960's, he worked as VP, Technical Director for Chase Manhattan Bank, NA., Metal Industries under David Rockefeller. From there, he launched a distinguished career with American Express International Banking Corporation and culminated his career as President of EF Hutton's Trading Company. His work took him to Saudia Arabia, Greece, Venezuela, Hong Kong and China focusing on loan supervision to mining organizations in those areas and many others around the world. In February 1952, he married the love of his life Jane Esther Martin in Chicago and they celebrated 62 years of marriage. Jane predeceased him on Feb. 18, 2014. In retirement, he enjoyed taking river boat cruises throughout Europe with his wife and friends. He had a great time tending his garden in Holmdel, NJ and sharing the bumper crop of tomatoes that arrived every August. He spent enjoyable time cooking at the Elks Club of Red Bank, NJ and the Sons of Norway Club of Marlboro, NJ, as food was one of his passions. He was also a 26 year member of Lincroft Presbyterian Church. Chester is the son of the late Hilda J. Dreier and Chester G. Soerens. He is survived by his three children, Charles Garret Soerens, Monroe, NJ, Peter Martin Soerens, Holmdel, NJ and Laura Soerens Dusek and son-in-law, James Edward Dusek, Fort Lauderdale, FL. Allison Jane Dusek is his only grandchild and she was the apple of his eye and brought him immense joy. When asked to share his best advice with his granddaughter he said, "Think and plan long term". He followed his own instruction well.
