      Charles Thompson Died at Hospital Saturday

      Charles W. Thompson, 71, Chouteau county native and of a pioneer family, died early Saturday morning at the St. Clare hospital here.

      Requiem mass was offered Tuesday morning at Immaculate Conception church in Fort Benton. Burial was in Riverside cemetery.

      Charles Thompson was born in this county April 1, 1895, of pioneer parents. His father, Charles Thompson, came up the Missouri river by steamboat in 1876, settling on Highwood creek, working with cattle outfits and on the Fort Benton to Lewistown stage line. The son attended schools in Highwood and Fort Benton and later operated a livery stable at Highwood from 1914 and operated a ranch, and except for two years, spent his life in this county.

      He was a director and vice president of the Great Falls PCA from its organization to retirement 25 years ago. He was on the Highwood school board and chairman for years and was active in civic affairs, being in charge of the Highwood fair for many years.

      He married Marguerite Berkner April 24, 1917, in Great Falls.

      Survivors include the wife of Great Falls; three sons, Charles E. Thompson, Wilmington, Delaware; John Robert Thompson, Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Edwin Keith Thompson, Walcott, N. Y.; a daughter, Mrs. Margaret E. Robinson, Pullman, Wash.; three sisters, Mrs. Helen Haines, Berkeley, Calif.; Mrs. Mae Beals, Portland, Ore.; and Mrs. Evelyn Christianson, Longview, Wash.; 15 grandchildren and other relatives.

      Charles W. Thompson made many friends who will regret his passing.
