- In the 1930 census, he is Konrad E Ewers, the 13 month-old son of Virgil and Madeline Sime Ewers of Readstown. He was one of ten children, eventually, and the oldest son. He lived in a three-room house until he was 16.
He moved to Richland Center after many years in Alabama. He and his wife Mary lived in Richland Center at the time of his brother Myron’s death in 2004.
He was interviewed by his granddaughter Carmen Poole on 29 Feb 1996, an oral interview that became part of the Jackson State University’s Oral History Archive. (Conrad did not have a southern accent but his granddaughter definitely did.)
Joined the Navy in the middle of his junior year (December of 1945 or January of 1946) to earn money for his family. Spent 18 months in the Aleutians.
Finished high school after his stint in the Navy.
Fairbanks Morse as a machinist. After 2-3 years went to Beloit Corp in 1955 as a machinist. In 1958 he was made foreman. Until 1967.
He was a plant manager in Birmingham starting in the late ’60s or early ’70s. The three younger ones came with at first, later the two older ones.
God our Father took home his son Conrad Eugene Ewers on November 16, 2011, at the age of 82.
Conrad was born in Readstown, Wisconsin on March 16, 1929. Conrad served in the United States Navy. He moved with his family to Beloit, Wisconsin, in 1952 then in March, 1970, they moved to Birmingham, Alabama.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Anna T. Ewers, Son/Gary Eugene Ewers, Son-in-law/H. Dee Fant, Grandson/David W. Howell Great Grandson/Delane Everett, Parents/Virgil & Madeline Ewers, Brothers/Myron, Ronnie, Kenneth and Steven, Sister/Allana George.
He is survived by his wife of 11 years Mary Shireman Ewers, Daughters, Victoria/Victor Holmes, Valerie Fant, Debra/Glenn Poole. Son, Lonnie/Michele Ewers and (3) Step Children/Doug, Patricia and Greg Shireman. He also had (7) Grandsons, (7) Granddaughters, (5) Step Grand Children and (4) Sisters along with many more Loving Friends and Family.
Services will be held at Jefferson Memorial Gardens/Trussville, Alabama on November 19, 2011. Services will begin with visitation from 12:00-2:00 followed by funeral services beginning at 2:00pm. Paul Bearers will be Chad Holmes, Danny Everett, Todd Morris, Darin Fant, Michael Hewett and Jackie Sayers.
