Funeral services for Carl Bernhard Elthon, 80, formerly of Valley Grove Community, were held on Jan. 17, at the Valley Grove Lutheran Church with the Rev. C. W. Holte officiating. Interment was made in the Valley Grove Cemetery in Wheeling Township. Pallbearers were Herbert Baalson, Evertt Hamann, Ingvald Henderson, Carl Hope, Alfred Severson and Melvin Stanbakken. Mrs. Donald Hope, organist, accompanied soloist, Walter Borgstahl, as he sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus." Carl Bernhard Elthon was born on Oct. 26, 1889, in Wheeling Township to Hans and Kari Clemetson Elthon. He was united in marriage to Inger Lockrem on June 6, 1917, in Valley Grove. He was a life long member of the Valley Grove Lutheran Church. Mr. Elthon, who passed away in Hallock on Jan. 13, is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert (Ione) Johnson of Hallock; two grandchildren, Gary and Lowell Johnson; one sister, Mrs. Emma Torblaa of Crafton, N.D. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, five brothers and six sisters. Friends and relatives attended the funeral from Hallock, Owatonna, Faribault, Northfield, Nerstrand, Warsaw, Minneapolis, St. Paul, Cannon Falls, Dennison, Kenyon, Zumbrota, Edina, Coon Rapids, New Richmond and Lady Smith, Wis.
