| Notes |
- He was naturalized as a citizen in Oshkosh on September 24, 1868.
In the 1870 census, he was a blacksmith in Neenah. His wife was Anna, age 25, and they had two children, Caroline and John, and a domestic servant named Christiansen, age 27, born in Norway.
In the 1880 census, he was a 42 year-old blacksmith in Neenah. His wife was Oliva, 34 (Ole’s 2nd wife) and their children were John 12, Ellisa, 9, Lena, 8, Hilda, 5, and Olif, 1. The first three childen, as well as the dead Caroline, were from Ole’s first wife, Anne.
He married Olava Arenson in November of 1874 and had four children with her: Hilda, Olaf, Dorthea, and Emma.
His partnership with Johnson in their blacksmith firm Johnson & Myhre was dissolved June 12, 1891, with Myhre continuing the business.
His will gave each of his six children $100 with the remainder of the property, including the homestead, going to his wife Alva. The estate was valued at about $5,000. {Ole had seven living children at the time of his death. Perhaps Olaf, who was the executor of Ole’s estate, was compensated differently.}
An article in the Neenah newspaper on his death called him “one more of the old heroes of the civil war,” and “one of Neenah’s highest esteemed and best-known citizens.” He had enlisted in Company G of the 3rd Wisconsin regiment and served throughout the entire war. He served three years on the city council. His health had been poor for some time “with stomach trouble.” He was an earnest worker in the G.A.R.
The obit said that a wife and seven children survived him: Mrs. Madsen of Martelle, Wisconsin, Mrs. C. Thompson of Highwood, Montana, and John, Olaf, Hilda, Emma, and Valbar of Neenah.
