- Jim says that Gudbrand emigrated to Manitowoc in 1881. The Vang migration records show that the unmarried Gulbrand, with his unmarried sister Marit, left Vang in May of 1881 for Amerika.
As Gilbert E Thompson, he married Emma Raduchel in Milwaukee County on 27 Mar 1899. Emma and Gilbert lived at the same address as her parents in the 1900 census (671 8th Street in Milwaukee). Same in the 1905 state census.
He is the Gilbert Thompson, 35, living in Milwaukee with his new wife Emma, 25, and infant son Gilbert in the 1900 census. The senior Gilbert had come to the U.S. in 1882 and was born in September of 1864. He was a baggage man with a railroad.
In the 1910 census, Gilbert and his family live in Milwaukee. Anna Radmichel, mother-in-law, lives with them.
The familiy was still in Milwaukee in the 1920 census.
In the 1930 census, he was a 67 year-old widower. He lived with his son Theodore in Milwaukee. His occupation was baggage man for the C M St. P Railroad.
In the 1940 census, he was a 75 year-old widower, still living with Theodore and family in Milwaukee. He had an eighth-grade education.
He was the last of his siblings. Jøger’s obit mentioned Gilbert as Jøger’s only surviving sibling.
