- John Howard Scott, 77, of Winnetka, Ill., and Pentwater, passed away Friday, Nov. 12, 1999 in Highland Park Hospital.
He was born Oct. 3, 1922 in Chicago, and raised in Glencoe, Ill. He lived in Winnetka for 37 years. He graduated from New Trier High School in 1940 and went on to Carleton College in Northfield, Minn. where he graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in physics in 1944. During World War II he served in the Phillipines as a First Lieutenant with the U.S. Army Signal Corps. During his professional career, John spent 39 years with Scott, Foresman and Company, Glenview (an educational publishing company founded by his grandfather Erastus Howard Scott). He was a Director Emeritus of Glenview State Bank and a 31 year member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He summered in Pentwater for over 30 years.
Survivors are his wife of 51 years, Margaret (Fisher) Scott of Winnetka; three children, Michael Howard Scott of Glendale Heights, Ill, Elizabeth Scott Kimmel of Berwyn, Pa., and Susan (David) Scott Anderson of Traverse City, Mich.; four grandchildren, Kristin and Eric Kimmel of Berwyn, Pa., and Katy and Steve Anderson of Traverse City; two sisters, Jean Scott Potter of Santa Fe, N.M., and Marian (Bruce) Scott Dillingham of Lombard, Ill; one brother, James (Lorraine) Scott of Northbrook, Ill.; a fond uncle and great uncle to many.
