  Notes	Robert Bruce Merrill was born Feb. 28, 1930, in Peoria, Ill., and was the only child of Harold Felt Merrill and Dorothy Virginia “Say” Merrill. He passed away Jan. 29, 2013, in Coos Bay. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Portland in 1948 and attended Portland University. On April 27,1951, he married Sonia Maureen Hagen. They moved from Portland to the Coos Bay area in 1955. He worked for Brookmead Dairy and at the same time acquired the assumed business name of Merrill Pest Control. After that he worked for Coos Head Pulp Mill followed by working more than five years for Menasha. In the early ‘60s he began working fulltime in his own pest control and construction contracting business until he retired in 1996 with 41 years of pest control and contracting service to the communities of the Southern Oregon Coast. During his career he was a member of the Oregon Pest Control Association and the National Pest Control Association. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and camping; and for many years hosted a weekly card game with friends. He also enjoyed remodeling and always had a project going in his own home. In his final days, Robert was well cared for by the staff of Baycrest Memory Care Center in Coos Bay. The family also appreciates the services and care provided by South Coast Hospice. Robert is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sonia Merrill of North Bend; daughter, Diane and Jim Dreiling of LaPine; son, Dan and Carol Merrill of Roseburg; daughter, Debbie and Lewie Merrill-Setzer of Huntingtown, Md.; daughter, Kayla Skye of Beavercreek; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
