  Notes	Known as Roger. He was a St. Paul contemporary, and possibly a high school acquaintance, of the writer Max Shulman. Because of this connection, it’s possible that Roger’s surname was the inspiration for the fictional character Clothilde Ellingboe, a girlfriend of Shulman’s fictional creation, Dobie Gillis. Clothilde Ellingboe appeared briefly in Shulman’s Dobie Gillis short stories as well as in an episode of the popular 1960s TV show, “The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis,” where she was played by Roberta Shore. In the 1940 census, as Roger J Ellingboe, he and his wife lived with her parents in St. Paul. He was a high school graduate. She had had some college. Roger was a salesman in a retail store. In the 1941 St. Paul city directory, he and Jean C live at 813 S Cleveland Avenue, apartment K-13. He is a salesman for Montgomery Ward & Co. In the 1948 St. Paul city directory, he and Jean C live at 44 Inner Drive, apartment F-14. He is a buyer for Sears. In the 1950 census, as “Joe R Ellingbo”, he and his family live in St. Paul. He is a buyer for a wholesale house.
