William was born on January 16, 1916 to Michael and Genovefa (nee Weber) Vetterl at the homestead east of Naicam. He was known as “Willie” to all of his friends and family. William led a very long life to the age of 94 and at the time of his passing, he was the last of his siblings and the baby of the family.Willie grew up in the Englefeld area where his dad farmed. He joined the army in 1943 and worked in the medic corp while he was stationed in England. William was discharged in 1946. He worked on the farm for Walter Pappenfus and Paul Hoffman. Willie also worked for Bud Matchett, picking up and hauling stock to Saskatoon. Willie and Florence owned the meat shop in Spalding for several years until they sold it. He helped Edward Morin and Joe Woloshyn with seeding and harvesting. Willie did a lot of carpentry, painting, renovations and trimming of trees around the community of Spalding for several years until he retired. He then spent his time working gardens for a pastime. Willie enjoyed fishing, hunting, curling, bowling and gardening. Spending time with friends and family playing a good card game or visiting over a cup of coffee brought him much pleasure. Willie loved to be busy and was very involved at the community level by being a member of the Legion in Spalding up to the time of his passing. He also served on the Credit Union board, Seniors Board, Bowling Alley Committee and on Spalding Town Council.
