She was a woman of unassuming dignity who brought delight and a genuine sense of appreciation to the many lives that she touched. We celebrate her journey. “Helen Ellingboe was born in Dennison, MN on Sept 9, 1908. After graduating from Mankato Commercial College, she spent 4 years working at the Mayo Clinic. While attending the Univ of Minn, she married Dr. Calvin Schmid, who was on the faculty there. They moved to Seattle in 1937, where he served as a professor of sociology at the UW until his retirement in 1972. They made their home on Whidbey Island until 1985 when they moved to Panorama City. Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. “She is survived by her children, Barbara (David) Linn and Stanton (Lana) Schmid; 2 grandchildren, Robert Linn and Teri (Will) Anderson; and 2 great grand-children, Andy & Lexie. Helen will be remembered for her sense of humor, kindness, style and grace. At her request, no services will be held. Remembrances may be made to the Calvin F. & Helen E. Schmid Sociology Excellence Fund at the UW.”
