- Karen Elizabeth (Weniger) Rudningen, 62, of rural New London, died Saturday at Rice Memorial Hospital.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hope Lutheran Church in Sunburg. Interment will be at West Norway Lake Lutheran Cemetery, rural Sunburg.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
She was born Dec. 1, 1947, the daughter of Kenneth and Signe (Nelson) Weniger Sr. She grew up in Madison where she graduated from Madison High School in 1965. She continued her education at Willmar Technical School, graduating in 1966. Following her schooling, Karen worked in the medical records department at Rice Memorial Hospital from 1966 to 1974, taking off time to raise her family. She then went back to Rice from 1982 until 2010, when she retired due to her health.
Karen was baptized and confirmed at Garfield Lutheran Church, rural Madison and was a former member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar. Karen was a member of Hope Lutheran in Sunburg at the time of her death where she had been active with the church women and also helped with the bazaar.
On Feb. 6, 1971, Karen was united in marriage to Dean Rudningen at Bethel Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with one son.
Her family recalls Karen's love for snowmen, her smile and upbeat personality. Even through these difficult months with her illness, she continued to brighten others' days. She was a hard worker and was always willing to help where needed. The holidays were always time for family and after Karen's father entered the nursing home, she would still make a Thanksgiving meal and they would go and celebrate with her family there.
Surviving is her husband, Dean; son, Scott (Tammy) Rudningen, of New London; father, Kenneth Weniger Sr. and brother, Kenneth Weniger Jr, both of Madison. Also surviving are other family and friends.
