    Notes
    • Ellef Pedersen Nyhus was the first-born son of Peder 'Per' Eriksen & Kari Ellevsdatter (Rundseie) Nyhus, born February 10, 1850 in Eggedal, Norway and was baptised 03 March 1850.

In March 1865, along with his family, Ellef left Norway and came to America eventually settling near Silver Lake, Worth Co., Iowa, approximately three miles south and three miles east of Emmons, Minnesota.

Along with his younger brother Erick, Ellef was confirmed in 1867 at Silver Lake Church. The church records indicate that an 'Erik' and 'Ellef Erikson' were confirmed using their father's name Per Erikson - aka Per Nyhus - which was a customary practice.

In 1874, the family moved again to Lake Mills, Winnebago Co., Iowa and then again along with his parents, a brother Erick P. and two sisters, Ingeborg (Mrs. Dr. Bleckre) and widowed Gjertrud (Nyhus) Nelson, who later became Mrs. Fingal G. Enger, and her two young children, Ellef and family later decided to journey to the praries of the Dakota Territory.

On July 02, 1874, Ellef took homestead in section 12 along the Goose River near the home of his parents.

Ellef married Maria Stavensbraaten. Maria was born July 24, 1859 in Flaa, Hallingdal, Norway and arrived in America with her mother, Bergit, in 1865.

Ellef and Maria were charter members of Little Forks Lutheran Church where Ellef served as Treasurer. He and brother-in-law Fingal G. Enger were recorded as the first settlers to have jointly purchased a threshing rig.

Ellef and Maria had ten children:

      Henry Oliver: October 06, 1876 - November 02, 1881.
