- He was an albino and was legally blind. He died from Alzheimer’s. He gave $1 million to the University of Minnesota for research into albinism. He received a business degree from the University of Minnesota in 1940 (where he studied with the help of a magnifying glass) and worked in insurance, banking, and real estate. In the early 1960s, he was a co-founder of the Fridley State Bank which was eventually acquired by Wells Fargo.
