  Notes	Living with his parents in Mahnomen County, Minnesota at the time of the 1920 and 1930 censuses. Apparently worked with a traveling carnival when he met Fern. Fern later left for Oregon where Jay was born. In the 1940 census, Clarence was living with his parents on the family farm in Lake Grove Twp, Mahnomen County, Minnesota. Clarence was shown as single. He had an eighth-grade education and worked in gravel hauling on a WPA road improvement project. Clarence and Gertrude lived at 88 Spruce Place in Minneapolis, near Loring Park, at the time of their stillborn son in 1942. He was “of Duluth” at the time of his mother’s funeral; “of Webster” at the time of his father’s funeral. Served in the military from 1942 to 1946. In one of Ed Ellingboe’s letters to Ruby in August or September of 1942, he seems to be referring to Clarence being in Boston at that time. In the 1946 Duluth city directory, he and Gertrude lived at 2219 South (with Melvin and Edith). Clarence was a driver for Security Stage. In the 1950 census, Clarence and Gert, with their sons Clarence and Ronald, lived on a farm in Eureka Twp, Dakota County, Minnesota. Clarence was a farmer and Gertrude was a nurse at a city hospital. Clarence was living in Elk River when his brother Edward died. Clarence was the informant for Edward’s death certificate. He was also living in Elk River when his brothers George and Melvin died. On May 2, 2002, Alison drove Clarence to see the old Thompson farm in Clarissa. HIs obit: Clarence Thompson Thompson Clarence, age 99, of Big Lake passed away on July 16, 2005. Preceded in death by wife, Gertrude and son, Ronald. Survived by longtime companion, Juel Biddick; sons, Jay (Leslie) Ross of Beaverton, OR, Clarence "Butch" (Wendee) Thompson of Sarona, WI, and Kenny (Dolly) Thompson of Sebeka, MN. Also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandsons. Clarence enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing and hunting. Funeral service 12 noon Wednesday at Dare's Funeral Home, 805 Main St., Elk River (973-441-1212). Visitation one hour prior to service Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment Orono Cemetery.
