In the 1920 census, she is the 10 year-old Olene Holien, living in Grand Forks with her sister Alma, 12, her mother Julia Holien, 39, a widow, an aunt Olena Thompson, age 16, and her mother’s mother, Tilda Thompson, 63, a widow. No one in the household is employed. The father of the two youngest girls was born in North Dakota. In the 1930 census, she is the 18 year-old stepdaughter of Oscar Anderson, age 44, born in North Dakota to parents born in Norway. Her mother is now Julia Anderson, age 48. The couple has been married for 8 years. Also in the household is Julia’s other daughter, Alma, 22. Oscar is a plasterer’s helper, Alma is a bookkeeper for a life insurance company, Oline is a stenographer for a retail hardware business.
