He died July 10, 2002, in North Bend. Mr. Swanson had lived in North Bend almost his entire life. He served in the United States Army in World War II and was a member of the 1st Armored Division. He also served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. He worked for the Oregon State Highway Department and the city of North Bend as a surveyor. Mane people will remember Don as the man riding his bicycle in the North Bend area for many years. He is survived by his sister, Alphild Vanderhoff of Klamath Falls and numerous nieces and nephews.
