  Notes	In the 1865 Norwegian census, he is Syver Christensen, b. 1859, “sister’s son,” living on the Liækerbakke farm in Sør-Aurdal. The owner of the farm is Ole Halsteensen, b. 1810. Not in the Sør-Aurdal birth or confirmation records available on Digitalarkivet. Perhaps he was born in the Bruflat or Begnedalen local parishes whose birth and confirmation records from this period are not available. In the 1905 state census, he (age 45) and Bertha (age 52) and Fred (age 14) and Bertha (as Bertha Qual, age 33, born in Norway) lived in Minneapolis at 2018 21st Avenue S. Syver’s occupation appears to be machinist. In the 1910 census, he and his wife and two children (Fred, 19, and Bertha Jr., 21) lived in Minneapolis. His occupation was inventor. Both children were born in Wisconsin. Bertha Jr. was a dressmaker. In the 1930 census, he is the widower Syver Loe, machinist, living at 3024 Franklin Avenue in Minneapolis. His household includes his 39 year-old son Fred, also a machinist, as well as a servant, the 67 year-old Anna Mikkleson, and four lodgers. The four lodgers, all men in their 20s, were probably students. All four were born in Wisconsin to parents born in Denmark. Syver’s residence is valued at $20,000. His obit said that he died at age 74. He founded the Loe Machine and Tool Works in Minneapolis in 1910. “He held four basic patents on voting machines widely used throughout the country.”
