Florence attended Lloyd and Beulah’s 70th Anniversary party in Northfield on June 17, 2006.
According to Evey, Florence “liked to tell how she and Beulah were baptized in the same water.”

Florence Viola Sandmann (Tonsager) passed away peacefully at home in Webster on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at the age of 101. Florence was born May 31, 1915 to George and Thea (neé Ellingboe) Tonsager in New Market Township. She was baptized and confirmed at West Christiania Church. Her sister, Gladys played the guitar and sang together many times at church. She attended school at Scott County District 65 Country School through the 8th grade, earning two perfect attendance records. She was united in marriage to Ira Sandmann on June 5, 1935. They adopted their 3 children while they farmed near Webster. They farmed for many years before moving into Webster Township in 1978. Ira passed away in December of 1988.
Florence loved to work in her garden, tending to her vegetable and many flower varieties. She was also very active and enjoyed playing cards weekly at the local senior centers. She was a member of St. Johns Church for 81 years. She was active in her church with the Ladies Aid to when changed to the LWML. She loved to crochet and do word searches. Her life was filled with love, spending as much time as possible with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and taught them of the love of fishing. Her favorite color was red.
Florence is survived by her children, Betty Nelson of Webster, Jerry (Richard Kelley) of Golden Valley and Larry (Roxanna) of South Range, WI. She is also survived by her grandchildren, James (Tira) Nelson, Timothy Nelson, Kimberly Nelson, Kristine (Jene) Lattimore; great grandchildren, Jason Nelson, Sarah (Jim) McKinnon, Carrie (Chris) Jeno, Nicholas Nelson, Kayla Vohnoutka and great-great grandchildren, Ashton Hortenbach, Avery Jeno and Lily Nelson; two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Tonsager (Francis), and Marcelline Tonsager (Bud); many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Ira; her parents; grandson, Mark Nelson; 7 brothers, Clarence, Palmer, Lester, Sidney, her twin Francis, Elvin and Floyd (Bud); 1 sister, Gladys (Mrs. George Sandmann).
Interment, St. John’s Cemetery, Webster.
