His occupation appears to be something like “machinager.” In the 1910 census, he was Austin J Austin, 57, a laborer of odd jobs living with his wife Emma in Milton, Montrose Twp, Cavalier County, North Dakota. In the 1920 census, he was A J Austin, a hotel-keeper in Nerstrand. Living with him was his wife Emma and their 26 year-old daughter Mabel. In the 1930 census, he was Austin J Austin, a 77 year-old widower living in Nerstrand with his 40 year-old single daughter Mabel. He was a hotel manager.
