- Stella A. Cordes passed away peacefully at her home in Baytown, Texas, early Sunday, May 6, 2012, nine days shy of her 94th birthday. She was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, on May 15, 1918, to Frank Anast and Georgia Souter Anast. Mrs. Cordes grew up in the Chicago area and worked as a beautician in her early years. After her husband, Lester, retired, they moved to Minocqua, Wisconsin. Mrs. Cordes was a loving and nurturing woman who chose her final career as a homemaker. She was an avid golfer and bridge player and enjoyed traveling, bowling and fishing. As a community leader, she volunteered for many years for the American Red Cross as well as numerous other charitable organizations.
Preceded in death by her husband of sixty-three years, Lester Cordes, Jr.; and son-in-law, Dwight Lohkamp; Mrs. Cordes is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Lohkamp, of Baytown, Texas; sons, Ronald Cordes and wife, Betty, of Rigby, Idaho, and Lester Cordes III and wife, Christal of Los Gatos, California; brother, George Anast and wife, Athey; grandchildren, Joanna Webber and husband, Dave, Keith Lohkamp and wife, Wendy, and Christina Funk and husband, Jamie. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, loyal sister and treasured friend.
