    Notes
    • In the 1900 census, he was a minister living in the Town of Winchester in Winnebago County, Wisconsin, with his wife Bertha and their daughters Olga, 10, and Anna, 6.

In the 1920 census, he was a pastor living in Gem Twp, Brown County, South Dakota, with his wife Bertha and their 25 year old daughter Anna Elizabeth, a student at St. Olaf College.

The following is from his Find A Grave entry, as created by his great-granddaughter, Connie:

Ole Joris Norbye was born in Klæbu, Norway (near Selbu) at the Grindstadtro farm, the son of Joris Christian Norbye (1816-1888) and Kari Olsdatter Overvik (1822-1907). He was the seventh child of eleven, although four of his siblings had died before he was born. There were four more children born to the Norbye family while they lived at this farm, one of whom died as a young child. The Norbye name changed to Norby sometime after the family arrived in the United States in 1871 through Quebec, Canada.

In 1874 at 19, Ole began a course of classical and theological studies which ended with his ordination as a Lutheran minister in 1879. The first call he received as a new pastor was from two congregations in Yankton County, Dakota Territory. After arriving in there, Ole sent for the young woman he had met first as a young theological student in Decorah, Iowa. He and Bertha Lien were married 14 Sep 1879 in Westerville.

The family moved to Sims, North Dakota, where Rev. Norby headed the Lutheran Mission field in western Dakota Territory and was a pastor at Sims and Mandan. He was the first and only Norwegian minister west of the Missouri River for some time. He traveled by train into Montana as well, bringing the ministry to distant communities, helping them to form congregations and build churches. During this time, 5 children were born to him, one son dying as an infant.

In hopes of recovering from poor health and to bring his children nearer centers of education, in 1893 Ole and Bertha left Sims to move to Chicago, where he became pastor for the Moreland Church. In 1899 Ole's next church call was from what is now Grace Lutheran Church in Winchester, Wisconsin. In 1912 he and Bertha left to return to the pioneer territory, where he served a church in Havre, Montana, from 1912 to 1914 and then the Scandinavia Lutheran Church and Bethany Lutheran Church congregations of rural Aberdeen, South Dakota. Ole was pastor there from 1914 to 1923 at which time he retired and moved to Minneapolis. There they joined the Minnehaha Lutheran Church and were active members until their deaths.
