- Edra Jeanette Hanson, 80, White Earth, ND, passed away Monday, February 16th, 2015 at the Tioga Medical Center after a short illness. Her funeral service is scheduled for Friday, February 20, 2015 at 2 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, White Earth. Burial will be in the spring at Norman Cemetery, rural Tioga.
Edra was born October 1, 1934 in Stanley, ND, the daughter of Art and Gladys (Dolan) Kuhlman. Growing up she attended school in White Earth and Ray, ND. She graduated from high school in White Earth. During Edra’s younger years she worked for B & H Grocery in White Earth. Edra met Willard Hanson through mutual friends. After a year and a half courtship, Willard received Art’s blessing and they were joined in marriage on January 4th, 1953 in White Earth. Their first home is fondly remembered as the “honeymoon shack”. Due to the rustic conditions of the cabin and the extra neighbors “mice”, they moved in with her parents two days later. They stayed there until the house they currently resided in was completed. To this union, they were blessed with two children Beverly and Paul. Together Willard and Edra ranched and raised their family in the White Earth Valley. Edra always made sure her kids were taken care of before her own needs. Her children were her pride and joy and she cherished every memory with both children even though their time on earth was short.
Throughout Edra’s life she touched many lives. She was very involved in all aspects of the church, including Sunday school teacher, organist, church secretary/treasurer, bible study leader and helping where ever else she was needed. Edra also served as the Myrtle Township clerk. She loved to play the piano, crochet, bake and enjoyed time in her yard, especially sitting on the deck visiting and enjoying the views of the picturesque White Earth Valley. Edra will be remembered for her kind and generous heart. She was always first to bring food and comfort to family, friends and neighbors in need. She was loved by all and will be missed.
She is survived by her husband, Willard; sister, Mary; brother-in-law, ElRoy; sister-in-law, Arlene; and numerous nieces, nephews, four “girls” and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Art and Gladys; infant sister;daughter, Beverly; son, Paul; sister, Lorree Lee and brother-in-law, Carol.
