Notes |
- LaVerne Winston Sherry, 89, passed away Friday, Oct. 14, 2016, at 11 p.m. at Vernon Manor in Viroqua.
He was born March 9, 1927, at home to Sidney and Ella (Wee) Sherry. He attended Star Valley Grade School and graduated from Soldiers Grove High School.
On Oct. 19, 1952, LaVerne married Aleda Nelson at the North Kickapoo Lutheran Church. They continued farming on the home farm where he was born. He always enjoyed farming, milking cows and raising crops. He also enjoyed sports, especially the Packers and the Badgers. He very much appreciated all the good neighbors he had throughout the years. In his younger days he liked to go deer hunting and snowmobiling. Later came the trips to Branson, Mo., to the Country Western music shows.
LaVerne is survived by his wife of 63 years, Aleda; daughter, Debra Rasmussen of Madison; two sons, Randy (Linda) Sherry of Readstown, and Lee (Carrie) Sherry of Viroqua. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Teresa (Charles) Dalton of Huxley, Iowa, April Sherry of La Crosse, Matthew Sherry of Soldiers Grove, and Hallie and Isabella Sherry, both of Viroqua; and two great-grandchildren, Abigail and Elliot Dalton; as well as one brother, Philip (Charlotte) Sherry; two sisters-in-law, Bonnie and Joanne Sherry all of Viroqua; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Marvin and Jean Nelson both of La Crosse; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Gordon (wife, Eunice), Carlyle and Elling Sherry; and one nephew, Arthur Sherry.
The family would like to extend their deepest “thank you’s” to the wonderful staff at Vernon Manor in Viroqua, for their excellent care and compassionate considerations during LaVerne’s stay there.
Funeral services for LaVerne will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at Kickapoo United Lutheran Church. Pastor Chuck Miller will officiate with burial immediately after the service.
