Han var en flink bonde og Kattevold 44/ var toppgården i Vang på den tiden. Han ble ofte truet på livet fordi han alltid var ute etter all råskapen og fanteriet som var i Vang på den tiden. Han gjorde mye for skolene i bygda, bl.a skaffet han lærebøker. Han ville at ungene skulle lese ordentlige bøker, og ble sint hvis han så at de leste (BK. "Gamalt frå Vang): " Han Trond flytta aat Bø og brukte gard'n der i 9 aar. Ein drivande garbrukar var han, og der flødde taa alle ting i Bø i dei aaro. Daa bestefar'n dø, kom dei te Kattevøl, og dei kom ikkje tomhendis. Ei heil dreft med hesta og fe hadde dei med se or Bø. Slik heimafyld hadde ingjen sett før her i bygd'n. Trond døde antakelig av lungebetennelse. BK skriver: "Trond Jonson fø 5. januar 1855. Han for på Øyremarkna'n um hausten og lei so vondt paa ture at han fekk banin sin taa det. Maren Bøyesdøtte. He went to Øyremarkna in the fall and suffered so much on the trip that he had his leg taken. Maren Bøyesdøtte. I did not see her die in the fall of 1873."
