Notes |
- In the 1907 Richmond, Indiana, city directory, he may be the Oscar Ellingboe, fireman, who lives at 1028 N H.
In the 1910 census, he is a carpenter and lodges with his brother Walter with a family in Two Rivers.
Registered for the draft on September 12, 1918, in Gary, Indiana. At that time, he and his wife, Anna, lived at 456 Harrison in Gary. Oscar was a carpenter for Homer Lee of Gary. He was described as of medium height and slender build with blue eyes an brown hair.
He and his wife Anna and his mother-in-law were living in St. Petersburg, Florida, in the 1920 census. (May be indexed as Dingboe.) No children. Oscar was a house carpenter. The same trio was living in Lake Geneva in the 1930 census.
In the 1940 census, he lived in Lake Geneva. He was an unemployed contractor. He was married but seems to have been recorded in the census separately from his wife.
A brief article in the October 30, 1941, edition of the Manitowoc Herald Times:
Oscar Ellingboe, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, building contractor in the county on business this week recalled the striking differences in ship building now and 80 years ago.
Mr. Ellingboe is a former Gibson resident. He and Mrs. Ellingboe have been visiting with relatives at Two Rivers and at Gibson. His father, Helge, and grandfather, Knud Thompson, cut tall trees from the forests in Two Creeks, sheared off the bark, and delivered them in Milwaukee for use as masts in sailing vessels. Most of these trips were made in small craft.
Mr. Ellingboe recalled that on one of the return trips his father and grandfather were forced to walk from Milwaukee and carried with them a much-needed plow.
When he registered for the draft in 1942, he lived at 316 Wells, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. The person who would always know his address was Ada C Ellingboe of the same address. His employer was Hobart Hermansen.
In the 1950 census, he was a carpenter living in Lake Geneva as a “roomer” with the Harry Becker family. Oscar was 65 and a widower.
He is probably the Oscar Ellingboe listed in the 1956 Sarasota, Florida, city directory. That Oscar, and his wife Mabel M, reside at 2027 Laurel.
That Oscar and Mabel are still in Sarasota in 1958, living at “6 14th (Mob Homes).”
