- Dr. James G. Lawton, 84, died Dec. 20, 1991 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.
Dr. Lawton was born in Richland Co. on Mar. 28, 1907, the son of Alvie Raymond and Vesta B. (Greenwood) Lawton. He was a graduate of LaFarge High School and then attended Marquette University where he received his doctorate in dental surgery in May 1933. One June 7, 1936 he married Mabel E. Guist. He practiced dentistry in Viola for three years before moving to Viroqua where he practiced until April 1981. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Viroqua Kiwanis Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2707 and the Wisconsin Dental Assn. He was a major influence in establishing the new Lawton Library in LaFarge.
Dr. Lawton is survived by his wife Mabel; one daughter, Lynn Luke of Phoenix, AZ; one son, Larry (Sheila) Lawton of Los Angeles, CA; four grandchildren and one sister, Gwendolyn Cochran of Phoenix, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son-in-law, Loren Luke and two brothers, Robert W. and Harold R. Lawton.
