Mabel E. Lawton, 87, of Phoenix and formerly of Viroqua, died Aug. 22, 1994 at J.C. Lincoln Hospital in Phoenix, AZ.
Mabel was born in Vernon Co. May 25, 1907 to George and Alice (Peterson) Guist. She attended Vernon Co. Normal School and taught for 10 years. Mabel was united in marriage to Dr. James G. Lawton June 7, 1936. They lived in Viroqua and were members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Mabel was a member of the Pythian Sisters, Literary Society, Kiwanians and served on the Red Cross Board. Dr. Lawton died Dec. 20, 1991. Mabel went to live with her daughter in Phoenix in March 1992.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Luke of Phoenix; her son, Larry (Sheila) Lawton of Los Angeles, CA; four grandchildren; a sister, Celia Guist of Viroqua; two sisters-in-law, Gwendolyn Cochran of Phoenix and Kathryn Lawton of Sparta; nieces and nephews.
In addtion to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Loren Luke; two brothers, Thomas and Lawrence Guist and four sisters, Allie Ward, Helen Hill, Clara Erickson, and Bertha Guist.
