  Notes	Earl Morkrid, 77, formerly of Viola, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.  Earl, the son of Martin and Fern (Fish) Morkrid, was born in Viroqua on April 16, 1935. He was baptized and confirmed at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and graduated from Viroqua Area Schools. On Feb. 4, 1956, he was united in marriage to Joan Morrison.  Earl worked for Fairbanks-Morse in Beloit as a machinist. He was also a dairy farmer in rural Viroqua and Viola and worked for Kirkland Enterprises Cattle Company. Later, he worked for the town of Forest in Richland County as a township patrolman until retirement.  In his spare time he enjoyed camping, playing cards, hunting, fishing and most of all, spending time with friends and family. Earl is survived by his loving wife, Joan; children, Kathleen (Thomas) Kaiser and Kay (Mark) Metcalf; grandchildren, Jennifer (Nathan) Hemmersbach, Angela Kaiser, Peter Kaiser, Amber Metcalf and Megan Metcalf; great-grandchild, Aubriell McCoy; sisters, Diane (Bill) Johnson-Bross of Viroqua, Gloria McCarter of Pleasant Prairie, Karen (Ted) Larson of Westby and Shirley (Robert) Kelsey of Greenville, S.C.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Selma Jean; brother, Sgt. 1st Class Kenneth; brothers-in-law, Harlan Johnson and James McCarter; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clair and Florence Morrison. The family would like to thank the Gundersen Lutheran doctors and nurses, with special gratitude to Dr. Siddiqi. Funeral services were held  Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua. The Rev. Lindsay Paul Jordan officiated; burial followed in Viroqua Cemetery. Friends called at the funeral home on Sunday.
