  Notes	Alfred or his children apparently changed the spelling of their surname somewhere along the way. The name is spelled Markusen in the 1930 census when he and Bertha and their four children live in Lakeville where Alfred is the local manager of the telephone company, a position he appears to have inherited from his father-in-law, Edwin, who is retired and living with Alfred and Bertha. Also living with Alfred and family in the 1930 census is Alfred’s widowed mother. Next door to the Markusens, or at least the next entry on the census form, is the Arthur Forstrom family.
