Hovander, Philip W. August 19, 1919 - April 30, 2011 Phil was a family man and a true Hopkins native where he was born, raised and lived his entire life in four different locations on 11th Avenue. For decades he and his wife Doris (Davey) owned and operated Hovander Foods, once a Hopkins landmark best known for friendly service and homemade Swedish meatball mix and sausage. Devoted member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church all his life, Phil's church and spiritual life was very important to him. Along with his wife and two daughters, he also loved golf and was a longtime member of Minneapolis Golf Club. He truly enjoyed his friends and neighbors and we thank those who visited him in his last months. Preceded in death in 2010 by his wife of 65 years, Davey, and in 2009 by his daughter, Deborah. Survived by daughter, Brenda Hovander (Mike Meents); son-in-law, David Horstman, and grandchildren, Lindsay Ergenekan (Can), Blake Hovander (Septimia), Eve and Camille Horstman and great niece, Michelle Kelly. Memorial service to be held on Saturday, May 21, at 10 am, Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 715 Minnetonka Mills Road, Hopkins, MN 55343.
