Notes |
- The first son and named after his paternal grandfather according to tradition. His middle initial C. probably stood for Claussen.
Never married. Played the violin at dances.
Cora says in her diary on September 11 that she got word that Sever died. That’s the date on his gravestone and in the Vernon County death record.
Census-taker Frank Munyon visited the Bowe/Anderson farm on May 6-7, 1910, and found Clause, age 77, widowed, Sever, age 44, Bertha Oren, 18, servant, Charley C. Anderson, age 42, Anna, age 43, and Cora C., age 14. Clause, Sever, and Anna are shown as coming to the U.S. in 1867. Clause is shown as owning his farm free and clear. Clause is shown as having his “own income”, Sever and Charley are farmers. Sever and Bertha are shown as employees (presumably both by Clause). All speak English except Bertha who only speaks Norwegian. All six are able to able to read.
Shown as age 52 in the 1920 census which suggests birth ca 1867.
According to the 1930 census, emigrated in 1874. (This is wrong, of course, because Sever is listed with the family in the 1870 U.S. census.)

| Andrew and Sever Bowe Probably Andrew and Sever in their later years. If the picture was taken in the late years of the first decade of the 1900s, Andrew would have been in his late 40s and Sever in his mid 40s. The original is a postcard made of glossy photo paper. There is no writing on the card. |
| George Anderson and Sever Bowe The man in the back is George Anderson, nephew of Kari Bowe. The man on the right appears to be Sever Bowe. Probably taken around 1905 when Sever would have been in his late 30s. George would have been about 21 in this picture.
This picture of George was used at his funeral in 1917.
We don't know who the person is on the lower left.
The original is a postcard; the image is a small oval image that takes up only half of the card. There is no writing on the card. |
| Hendricksons and Larsons Apparently taken about 1913 when Charles would have been 56, Clara Munson 20, Sever 47, Arthur 5, Martha 41, Myrtle 3, Ada 3, and Louise 36. This would have been taken a little more than a year before Cora came to live with Martha and family for 3 months in late 1914. The backdrop appears to be of Minnehaha Falls so the picture was probably taken in Minneapolis. |
| Sever and Andrew Bowe Probably taken in the early 1890s. In 1891, Sever would have been 25 and Andrew 29. The fading original is mounted on card stock. The photographer is Adlington's Studios of Viroqua, Mt. Sterling, West Lima, and Cashton, Wis. Cora's annotation on the back is "Uncle Sever" and "Uncle Andrew." |
